Betfocus and PlayUp are two well-known bookies in the Australian market. Both have a lot to offer, but which bookie is best? With Betfocus, I would consider them one of the new betting sites on the market. On the flip side, PlayUp has been around for a bit longer and is one of the more established betting sites available.

I have gone through both bookies for our loyal OnlyRacing readers, reviewing them and comparing the key components of Betfocus and PlayUp to see which bookie comes out on top! For my bookie comparison, these are the categories I am judging each betting site on:

I found the odds to be pretty competitive at both Betfocus and PlayUp. After comparing events across sport and racing, I am leaning towards Betfocus. In the end, though, most of the odds I compared were marginally better at Betfocus. As always, it can pay to shop around at multiple different bookies for the best odds.

The winner...

When it comes to betting markets, I'm siding with PlayUp. Their breadth and depth of markets are a little better than what is available at Betfocus. It’s not a major difference though and if you are the kind of person who usually bets on the main events and markets, then both bookies will work for you.

It wouldn’t be a proper betting site comparison if I didn’t talk about the range of features and products available at Betfocus and PlayUp! For this one, there was a clear winner in my eyes, PlayUp. They have a lot of features and products that are actually useful, like their PlayUp Playbook and detailed horse racing tips, for example.

I have never run into any issues with either of the betting apps, both are fast-loading and are almost always bug-free. From a navigation point of view though, Betfocus is a little easier to work your way around and place your bets. So, for that reason, they will come out on top in this mini-battle!

When it comes to user experience, I am siding with Betfocus. There are just a couple of things that they do a little better that make the experience more seamless. The quick bet functionality, for example, means customers can place their bets even faster.

The winner...

Both Betfocus and PlayUp don’t offer live streaming at this stage. However, for live betting, this is a feature available with PlayUp (but not Betfocus). So, for that reason, PlayUp comes out on top in this category for the bookie review.

Both bookies have a lot to offer when it comes to promotions and bonuses, especially horse racing promotions. While you will need to log into your account to view exactly what’s on offer, I have had a look and are siding with Betfocus. They have a great range of both racing and sports-related promotions each week.

Betfocus and PlayUp have both gone through the official channels and are fully licensed to operate in Australia. The Australian wagering industry has among some of the most intricate gambling laws and regulations. Both bookies adhere to all laws and regulations to ensure a safe and respectful experience.

As you are submitting personal information to your bookie, like your card details, for example, it is important that they have the best safety and security measures in place. Both bookies use SSL certificates and have other security measures in place to ensure all your data stays safe.

The range of banking options available with both bookies is fairly similar. However, where Betfocus really shines is its withdrawal speed. I believe that Betfocus has some of the fastest withdrawal speeds in the industry and they process withdrawals four times every day.

Both offer a decent customer service feature, with multiple communication methods available and the all-important live chat. However, PlayUp’s customer service team is available 24/7 and we all know that issues or questions don’t wait until business hours, so PlayUp takes the cake here.

Both bookies offer plenty of tools and resources to support responsible gambling. It is easy to set a deposit limit with both Betfocus and Playup. They also have information about BetStop, the National Self-Exclusion Register as well as other helpful resources.

Well, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag, hasn’t it?! Both Betfocus and PlayUp have different areas where they excel. At the end of the day, both bookies have a great offering and it is worth checking them out if you’re in the market for a new bookie.
