Friday Racing Tips - Ipswich Racecourse 04/08/23

Queensland racing sees an eight race card come to Ipswich racecourse and there are a bunch of competitive races in what is set to be great contests up North in mixed grades. There is just the one Maiden race, which kicks off the card over the 800m and then mixed distances with the staying race in race two being the only true staying contest of the day. I have found quite a few decent betting spots on the card and am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below for a solid Friday of racing at Ipswich!

BEST BET - #4 - Tricketeer (BEST BET)
I doubt you will be able to get $1.80 if you are only reading this tomorrow but for the sharps who follow my tips as they are released I think that Tricketeer could look a moral in this field and really only has one key rival here but based off their short careers thus far he should have this in the bag and am happy to take that price. He’s had four career starts for Mike Nolan and comes back to racing off a 14 week break when he just kept bumping into smart horses and placing three consecutive seconds. His splits have all been very good and will come back to racing strong under Ben Thompson. Confident he finds the front and is too hard to catch from there.

THE DANGER - #2 - Heartoni 
Only real danger looks to be Stephanie Kendrick’s Heartoni who has been putting in super trial efforts after placing on the Gold Coast Synthetic back in April where she debuted for the stable and that was a solid run back then but more so the way she has moved along in two lead up trials for her return to racing has been very nice. She has won both the trials and gets the booking of Orman for this assignment so clear intent from the stable and she will be strong no doubt.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Queen's Arms 
Not sure Queen’s Arms has what it takes to beat the two mentioned above but she is a definite improver for Jack Bruce who is a must for the trifecta at big odds. She’s only had the two career starts and came back to racing off of a long spell last time out when running in a strong maiden at the Sunshine Coast where she got caught wide throughout and chased hard all run only to fade late. Will be fitter, with plenty of upside to come and draws for a much more economical run now. I imagine she will put in an improved showing here.

BEST BET - #9 - Smile Upon A Star (NEXT BEST) 
Smile Upon A Star should get a nice drag into this race with an aggressive tempo that looks to be on and I think some of these are likely to run each other’s legs off in which case he will be on their backs and ready to launch over them late. He’s two weeks between runs for Adam Campton after returning to racing off of a 21 week spell at Lismore over this distance where he didn’t beat much but the way he did it suggests he’s in for a good prep. His splits and run times read very well for this and in an open contest I think he’s the leading contender.

THE DANGER - #12 - Radiant Remi 
I imagine Tony Gollan is going to have Radiant Remi right to go first up here off the back of just his three career starts where he went back to the paddock at the end of January a winner in his most recent run. The run came at this distance at Doomben and it was quite smart where he displayed a dynamic run style to get the job done well. He was ridden quietly in a tick over trial at Doomben and might want the run but with Benny Thompson on I doubt he puts in a bad effort here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Poetic Drama 
Poetic Drama has been absolutely flying since joining the Sears camp and his splits read very well for this assignment so I don’t see any reason he can’t go on with it now. He won his debut for the stable three runs back over the 1400m at Eagle Farm before a close placing at Doomben over the same distance and then had a short let up from the races and returned in style, when stepping out to the Mile at Eagle Farm and rounding them up easily for a dominant win. 1100m first up is a bit on the short side of his firing distance but he will be strong regardless and this isn’t an overly tough assignment relative to what he has been contesting, go close.

BEST BET - #4 - Uncle Russ
Uncle Russ is a track specialist here for Jack Bruce who comes back to racing here off the back of a luckless effort at Doomben where he wasn’t suited to the tight turning, spit-out style track and can hit back hard here. He’s two weeks between runs, hard fit, has two wins in two runs here and maps to get a decent run on the pace and with Collett on he should be running on strongly.

THE DANGER - #2 - Olympic Legend (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Olympic Legend should be set to peak here third up and can take this out I am confident. He resumed off of a 15 week spell when needing the run at Aquis Beaudesert and was three weeks between runs when he stepped out here last time and made massive improvements to find the front and lead until only being run down late in the piece, giving way to his condition. He’s now had almost a month between runs, will be sharper and have retained the fitness off of his last two runs and gets in nicely with the claim from Williams, sure to run well.

VALUE BET - #8 - Confessed 
Confessed is one of the few representatives for the mighty Kris Lees stable and has to be respected being placed here. He’s a month between runs after racing over the 1400m at Ipswich and that effort was full of merit where he missed the start a length and had to cop being last and two wide in the run and managed to work to the middle of the track in the straight and chased the winner bravely after doing a tonne of work when beating all but the winner there. If he gets things right from the jump this time I think he will run a cracker race, he clearly has the talent.
