Friday Racing Tips - Rockhampton Racecourse 07/07/23

Friday racing returns to Rockhampton for an exciting eight race card up North that sees some of the tip Queensland stables astutely placing runners amidst a bunch of other competitive stables and there are eight races to be contested on the card with two maidens to kick us off and the Tab Rockhampton Newmarket Hcp being the feature of the day, a 1300m open race for a share of $100,000 prize money. I have outlined my best betting spots of the card and run through the feature race so follow me below for a great Friday of racing!

BEST BET - #2 - Our Heart Throb (BEST BET)
I am keen to be in the corner of the Tony Gollan trained Our Heart Throb who should be close to his peak third up here and gets as good a chance as any to shed the maiden tag. He’s had two runs back from a long 31 week spell and resumed at Doomben when fifth in an honest effort. He stayed at the course for his next run and raced again at the 1200m showing big improvements to finish third there and probably would have finished closer if he hadn’t been held up / bumped around a bit. He should be hard fit now, drops to a country level and my guess is they have put him here to boost ratings and shed the tag before going back into town. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #4 - Sizzling Samurai 
Sizzling Samurai hasn’t put a foot wrong since resuming and running four times last campaign and I think that with any luck he is due a win and fire here first up. He had a four run prep from January until the end of March that saw him race here three times and place closely in all three. He placed when last first up, moved along very nicely in a recent trial here, is locally trained and can only see him running well.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Patti 'N' Fay 
Patti ‘N’ Fay looks an honest chance for Grant Taylor and should be at just about peak here fourth up and is crying out for a win. He resumed off a twenty three week spell at the Sunshine Coast and was never headed there, being held up at a crucial stage. Since then he has been brave, doing it tough out wide in both his last two runs before starting powerful runs at the 200m and just fading late due to his condition. He looks hard fit now, maps for a more economical run in transit and should go close here.

BEST BET - #2 - Chameleon Choice
Chameleon Choice can resume a winner here for Nick Walsh in what looks to be a great little BM65 sprint that has a few key chances but I am keen to be in his corner. He’s great with fresh legs, with a win and two close placings in this company or tougher from four first up runs and he loves this track. He has two wins from three attempts here, draws to find the front easily with not much speed so if he can cross early and lead these out I can see it being very hard for him to be caught.

THE DANGER - #4 - Immoral 
You have to give respect to just about every Tony Gollan runner on the program and Immoral is no exception. The four year old has been up some time now with five runs back from a spell and does look to be nearing the end of her prep but clearly has more to offer, at least the stable thinks so. She has recorded a win and three close placings in her five runs back and the times / run style have all been quite sharp. She’s been given a little freshen for this which I like and as long as there is petrol left, she will run well.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Kahaylaan (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Kahaylaan is one of the more interesting runners in this field. The five year old changed hands earlier this year to Kris Hansen and then subsequently resumed off of an eighteen week spell at this track and +50m this trip where he seemingly has returned to form when held up at the 300m before angling clear going very wide and winding up to power home into the placings. Couldn’t have gone much better for the 1st run for the new trainer and I am very keen to see what he has to offer with natural improvement second up. Go close.

BEST BET - #3 - Bollente (NEXT BEST)
Bollente should have plenty to offer here second up and I am quite keen to have something on him in this ultra competitive contest. He resumed off a long fifty eight week spell off the back of some sharp trials at this course in the Tatts Sprint over the 1200m where he had to lug a massive 64kg where he set 7th and two wide no cover in the run before coming on strongly just behind the placegetters in a very honest run. He is a second up winner and has only been out of the placings once in five second up runs, has only been out of the placings once at this course with a win here, drops nearly 10kg of weight for this assignment, should slide into a great position from barrier three and I only see him going well here.

THE DANGER - #9 - Princess Tenko 
No knock on Prince Tenko who has had just the one run since coming over to Clinton Taylor from the Schweida stable and he has had her in good order when resuming off of a crazily long sixty nine week spell at this course in the Tatts Sprint from the aforementioned Bollente where he raced with just 54kg compared to Bollente and cruised to victory in a very strong first run for the stable. He meets a much more competitive field here and a lot of those now have big weight swings that he beat last time, draws an awkward alley, just a few too many queries for me to have something on but there’s no doubt about his talent.

VALUE BET - #12 - Thisland Is Myland 
Thisland Is Myland is certainly going well enough to take this out for Graeme Green and comes into this race during his first campaign for the stable and what a campaign it has been thus far. He has patiently been given around a month between each run since debuting for the stable back in January where he won and since then has either won or come super close second placings in each of his seven runs this time in, with three wins. He’s been turned around for this assignment with a three week break off the back of a smart win at Mackay and should run well here all things equal.

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances.
