Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 02/12/23

Another massive race day heads to Caulfield tomorrow with six stakes races and two Group two races with the Whispering Angel Zipping Classic being the feature of the day, a 2400m race for a share of $750k in race eight. I have run through the three biggest races so follow me below for my best tips for Caulfield’s Saturday racing!

BEST BET - #2 - Vilana
Vilana just looks too well set up to look past here for Godolphin. He comes off a run in the Sir Rupert Clarker a fortnight back at this track and trip where he got blocked for a run in the straight where he likely would have otherwise won behind Magic Time. He strikes a very winnable race now and should be winning here.

THE DANGER - #3 - King Magnus
If you have been following these tips for awhile you would know how much of a fan I am of King Magnus. I must admit that he hasn’t been his old self in his past few but maybe he is back after resuming at Flemington a few weeks ago where he was flying home from the tail of the field to finish just off of Cause For Concern. He’s been geared towards this race and I think he runs well now.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Unusual Culture (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Unusual Culture should be fit and ready to fire here for Maher and Eustace after resuming a fortnight back in the How Now where she was completely against the pattern and still powered home well to finish very close to Rose Quartz. She is a second up winner in the past and should be strong here.

BEST BET - #2 - Power Of The Brave (NEXT BEST)
I might regret this as there are a few honest chances in this race but I am giving the top spot to Power Of The Brave who steps out for his fifth run this prep for Kris Lees but gee has he been crying out for a win in his last couple. All of his last three runs he has finished runner up, to the likes of some smart horses and he now comes into this with a good gate, hard fit and I am happy to be in his corner one more time.

THE DANGER - #1 - Arkansaw Kid
Arkansaw Kid comes out to a distance where he is not tested but he’s the most talented runner here and comes out of a run at Flemington three weeks ago where he weaved a path inside near the rail and was jetting home to finish behind Run Harry Run who was a very impressive winner that day (was in our tips). As long as he gets a softish run he should still be prominent at this trip.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Vivy Air
Vivy Air I am willing to give another chance here for Archie Alexander. She last ran two weeks back in the Thousand Guineas where she made up heaps of ground late in the piece, coming from near last in the run but running home very well even though not a winning chance behind Joliestar. Her run before was awesome and I think she can hit back hard here at a nice price.

BEST BET - #1 - Vow And Declare (BEST BET)
Now that the track has been upgraded and is set to be a good 4 I am keen to be in the corner of Vow And Declare who i just knocked due to the track having meant to have some sting out of it. He ran very well here last year after coming out of the Melbourne Cup and this year he has arguably been going better so I think back to the 2400m now, hard fit, somewhat flying and a huge step back in competition. All looks positive.

THE DANGER - #7 - Duke De Sessa 
Duke De Sessa comes out of the Queen Elizabeth the last time there was a meeting at this track three weeks ago where she tried and tried but just couldn’t get there when third to a very sharp winner in Muramasa. He is the class of this field however but his manners just prevent me from being on here when Vow and Declare comes up at a better price.

VALUE BET - #4 - Military Mission
Military Mission has been going very well for the Waterhouse/Bott stable and is an honest chance again here. He comes out of the Melbourne Cup where he was far from disgraced behind Without A Fight but I think the key to him is coming back to the 2400m and as long as he still has steam to give he will be a threat here.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
