Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 14/10/23

Bam! Caulfield Guineas Day already and a massive card goes to Caulfield racecourse with three group 1 races amidst a bunch of other listed races with two group two’s and two group three’s and a stakes race. It’s going to be a huge day but I am focusing just on the Group 1 races so follow me below for an exciting day of high level racing at Caulfield racecourse!

BEST BET - #9 - Duais
The first time I ever went to the races, I walked out to the stands at Randwick and watched Duais absolutely spanking a field through the line. She has come back in great order and I couldn’t be happier to see it and comes off the back of a run in the Underwood where she was flying home behind AB. She gets Shinn on now and he will be able to get her to settle a bit closer in the run, which should be the key to her rolling AB this time.

THE DANGER - #1 - Alligator Blood
Alligator Blood is one of the premier runners in the immense Gai / Bott stable and will give himself every chance to win again. He took out the Underwood stakes a few weeks back where he did heaps of work and I honestly thought he was beat but Oliver kept finding more on him and he made it year on year wins in that race. 2000m is a bit of a concern but if there isn’t too much pace on he will be tough to beat in the straight.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Nonconformist (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Smart horse in Non Conformist who comes out of the same Underwood as the other two horses mentioned and he didn’t do too much there, albeit from a poor draw and he did keep finding the line in a reasonably strong manner. I think that he will do better work out to the 2000m now, just a question of if he’s talented enough to take this out.

BEST BET - #1 - Militarize (NEXT BEST)  
Smart horse for Chris Waller in Militarize who gets the powerful booking of Morreira who has been absolutely outstanding on Aussie shores. He may have gotten lucky in the Golden Rose but I think that luck was mitigated by the fact he was very badly held up for a lot of the race. He’s a three time G1 winning horse who is racing fantastically and based off how strong he was to the line last time out I would say he goes very well out to 1600m now.

THE DANGER - #4 - Steparty
All you can do is win and that is what Steparty has done for the Preusker stable in five career starts. He took out The Prelude for this race just shy of a month ago where he let them getaway in front before smashing them to the line in a dominant effort. He should relish the step up in trip now and will give Militarize a run for his money here.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Southport Tycoon 
Call me crazy but the way that Southport Tycoon has been racing in his three start career for Maher and Eustace I think makes him a knockout chance here. He kicked off his career with back to back wins before stepping out in The Prelude three weeks back where he ran well over his $12.00 quote when chasing very hard the entire straight and beating all but Steparty there where he himself wasn’t given the easiest of runs. He might not win this, but is certainly one to consider at such big odds.

BEST BET - #3 - Amelia’s Jewel (BEST BET)
You are probably sick of seeing me sing Amelia’s Jewels praises by now but she is just too good to ignore coming into this. She smashed them first up in the Let’s Elope before going to the Stocks where she did things seemingly with ease and blitzed the clock there to set a new record. Gets in at 56kg, that certainly won’t be enough to stop her, can’t see her losing this.

THE DANGER - #6 - Antino
I think the real threat to Amelia’s Jewel would be the Tony Gollan / Blake Shinn combo under Antino. Antino got no luck first up when being crowded out for a run in the Flemington straight and really likely should have won there before going to Sandown afterwards where he belted a decent field. He now comes into this third up, ready for the mile and can make this a race with Amelia’s Jewel.

VALUE BET - #2 - The Inevitable
The Inevitable is an interesting horse for John Keys who has switched hands a bit but does look to be well placed under John and most recently had his first start for the stable when coming off of a three week break and racing in the Epsom at Randwick where he set further back than intended and looked to start coming on strongly at the end before being held up badly again. Watch what the market does with him, he could surprise here with the right kind of run.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
