Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 13/05/23

Racing continues at Flemington racecourse for Andrew Ramsden Stakes day, with the winner of the feature of the day, The Andrew Ramsden Stakes, getting a free spot in this year’s Melbourne Cup. The feature race of the day is a 2800m staying race with high stakes. The feature is complemented by eight exciting high level races and I am looking forward to Saturday’s racing at Flemington. The track is rated a soft 6 and the rail is in true position. Follow me below for my best bets on the card!

BEST BET - #9 - Party For One (BEST BET) 
I think Party For One, despite being costly to follow, will be very well suited on the long Flemington straight and out to 1400m. She was first up at the 1200m behind Foxicon on the Hillside track at Sandown and took too long to warm up but when she did she showed that the class is still there, powering home into fourth. She raced on the same course out to 1300m last time where she pretty much did the same thing. Hard fit now third up, out to 1400m and a big long straight, she’s going to be the key chance.

THE DANGER - #14 - Star Of Chaos
I actually think that this race is a lot closer between Star Of Chaos and the aforementioned Party For One than the market indicates. She raced just over two weeks ago at Sandown where she jumped from an outer barrier, crossed them and led, gave a solid kick after the turn and just was run down to come third to two smart types with the gun run. She looks like she will be able to find the front here with less effort exhausted, will be fitter as well and will be hard to catch from there.

VALUE BET  - #13 - Arktika
Arktika is a very well bred Filly for the Maher and Eustace stable that is resuming in this race after not being seen at the races since the 10th of December. She was racing at Sandown then when last in the field but pulled up with Cardiac Arrythmia then. She’s had a solid break away from the races and the Jumpout work has been very good to prepare for this. The stable wouldn’t have put her forward for this if 1400m fresh didn’t suit and as such I think she has to be respected here.

BEST BET - #4 - D’Jumbuck (NEXT BEST)
D’Jumbuck has the right form lines for this and is a proven straight track horse and I think that $2.80 is good enough for me. He’s won three of his last four, the most recent run was at Sandown Lakeside four weeks ago in the VOBIS Gold Sprint where he sat just off a hot speed and when he let down he did so with real purpose, beating off the likes of Outlaws Revenge and Bill The Boxer. Blake Shinn jumps on for the straight course ride and I think he’ll look the winner a long way.

THE DANGER - #1 - Buffalo RIver
Buffalo River is one who maps to jump on the bunny and give a sight out front. He last raced two weeks back in the Anniversary Vase and tried the same tactics but he just faded late to find one better in Cardinal Gem. This should prove similar and I expect him to start to tire late but onto the straight and with the added fitness he may have enough to hold them at bay from the front.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Jimmy The Bear
Jimmy The Bear is a runner I have a lot of time for. The Patrick Payne trained Gelding hasn’t been seen at the races since Pakenham Cup Day last year when at the end of his prep behind Pal D’Oro. The stable is astute with placing their fresh runners and Jimmy has been given some great Jumpout work to ready him for this, doesn’t race badly with fresh legs and I think he will be prominent here if the market has him right to go.

BEST BET - #10 - White Marlin
It’s been costly for me to keep doubting White Marlin but last time out it worked out for me last time at Pakenham. Looking back on it though due to the headwind down the side of the track no leaders were winning that day. We are only getting this price on him due to that loss otherwise he would still be unbeaten and he comes back now to the track where he recorded the riveting Cup Day Win. I think he towels these.

THE DANGER - #3 - Hezashocka
Hezashocka has been around the mark without firing for a win this prep but has been contesting some better races than this. Two back she raced in the Queen Elizabeth (G1) where she was honest in the run, trying hard despite being bumped around and held up she still came fourth behind Dubai Honour. However, Last time out her class showed in the Mornington Cup where she did it tough out wide all run and had been shuffled back to last throughout the run to come on so strongly at the end of the run, just failing to catch the winner who had the gun run when she came second. Off that, looks very well placed to go one better here now.

VALUE BET - #17 - Lunar Flare (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Grahame Begg trained Lunar Flare is as honest as they come and poses the main threat, IMO, to White Marlin. She has had five weeks between runs since last racing at Sandown in the Easter Cup where she got held up badly throughout the run and was unlucky to not finish second, but they were no where near White Marlin anyway there. She gets well down in the weights now, a soft draw and should give White Marlin a more intense test now.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse.
