The final Saturday before Christmas has always historically housed the Pakenham Cup and some of the best horses in Victoria will be in the hunt.

Pakenham - Race 2 - Fulmen Park Handicap - 1200m

The in-form Hayes yard will be hoping Romani Ite Domum will be raring to go in this one and it should be the ideal fit. Blake Shinn is on board, the perfect hoop and it is the one to catch.

THE DANGER - Sweethearted - $4.60
Back to back second place finishes have put Sweethearted into a great position coming into this one and the ground at Pakenham should suit. Catching the favourite will be tough but don't discount this horse.

VALUE BET - Grinzinger Pod - $7.00
Fresh off the back of a win at Caulfield Heath, Grinzinger Pod is propelled into contention in this one. The trip looks ideal and it should lay down the gauntlet to those ahead of it in the betting.

Pakenham - Race 4 - RJ Sanderson Handicap - 2500m

Progressively better showings throughout this season have seen Divus Romelus come into some good form of late and a win feels imminent. Craig Williams is a great jockey booking and this will be the one to catch.

THE DANGER - Flamin' Romans - $5.00
Kiwi flyer Flamin' Romans will be chomping at the bit for Ciaron Maher and this should be the ideal type of contest at Pakenham. It has picked up a pair of wins already this term and looks well placed to feature.

VALUE BET - Duke Of Condicote - $5.00
Placing last time out is a huge tick in the box for Duke Of Condicote, a horse that should relish conditions at Pakenham. This is a tough field but it is an open contest and Duke Of Condicote could be in the hunt.

Ciaron Maher is a very big fan of this horse and he will be expecting it to feature heavily here. It likes this distance and was unlucky not to win at Caulfield last time out.

Another Ciaron Maher offering here is Herman Hesse, who also finished agonisingly second last time out. This is an open field, making Herman Hesse a strong candidate, at a very good price.
