Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 29/07/23

Racing returns to Randwick racecourse tomorrow for a high level card of black type racing as we are well and truly into the Winter Carnival and approaching Group 1 races in the Spring again and I am more than excited to get stuck into things. We have a monster ten race card set with $1.4 million prize money on offer across the races and there should be some super competitive races with two BM88’s on the card and the rest of the races being contested in BM72 or higher grade. I am keen to get going so follow me below for another awesome Saturday of racing!

BEST BET - #1 - Plundering
This race looks like a good setup for the ultra progressive Neasham trained Plundering who has only been out of the placings once in his short eight starts career and can hit back hard here and make it four wins from nine runs. He raced at the beginning of the month at Rosehill over this distance last time out where he chased hard in the straight to find the front after starting a big run from out wide and was outstanding in defeat, beating all but Chorlton Lane, who looks to be onto Group 1 racing in the Winter. Lloyd gets the booking and was absolutely amazing at the last Randwick meeting and I think she will be tough to beat.

THE DANGER - #8 - Gently Rolled
Gently Rolled is a Bryce Heys trained product that is stepping up to the Midway from the midweeks and she has earnt his crack at this race. She’s won both her last two runs, both in a bit of time and both at Newcastle. Her win two runs back was what really caught my eye when racing off the speed over the 1200m and starting a powerful run off the turn to score dominantly before replicating that effort over the 1400m again last time out. She maps to get every chance here and will undoubtedly be strong.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Nosey Parker (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Nosey Parker keeps being put up at these massive quotes and keeps running above his price tag and is a knockout chance here. He’s on the quick turn around after racing in a Midway last weekend when he was completely against the race shape and on the wrong part of the track when finishing behind Soami and probably should have finished two or three closer then. He now draws a much softer gate, should lob onto the speed and have the fitness to give a big kick in the straight, genuine chance at odds.

BEST BET - #4 - Mogo Magic (BEST BET)
Everyone and their mother is talking about Mogo Magic this weekend and we had him in our Saturday tips at the beginning of the month at Rosehill where he saluted dominantly. He’s had a month between runs now and comes back to racing to secure himself a win and a ticket into The Kosciuszko. He gets another honest test here but he has passed all four he has been given so far and always have to beware the unbeaten horse. Keen to be in his corner again.

THE DANGER - #3 - Diamond Dealer 
I think we can expect sharp improvements second up from the Bjorn Baker trained Diamond Dealer who resumed off of a 19 week spell last time out at this course just shy of three weeks ago where he set three wide with no cover and battled on well all run to finish fourth behind Miss Jay Fox. That run was the best set up run you could ask for, for a second up win as he will be sure to be a lot fitter off that effort and I think he only runs well here under LLoyd. He’s a proven second up winner and is overs in this field.

VALUE BET  - #18 - Rupertaar
Another Bjorn Baker product that I am quite keen on and think can fill the trifecta if she is right to go is Rupertaar. She hasn’t raced since the end of February this year where she sat on the speed and boxed along to finish in the placings behind Invincible Vision. I think the key to her is fresh legs as she rarely ever runs a bad race first up and generally resumes in strong competition. Her Kembla trial win two weeks back was outstanding and she is surely right to go off the back of that. Keen.

BEST BET - #3 - Deepour (NEXT BEST)
I am convinced that the market has misread this race based off of Deepour’s last run and am confident that she can get one over the high class Insurrection. He was three weeks between runs when racing in the listed Ramornie at Grafton (1200m) a few weeks ago and was completely against the race shape / wrong part of thr track and still flew home to finish fourth in a big field behind The Big Goodbye. That was a more than valiant effort and he now is hard fit, better for the run and steps onto a track that will give him a chance to come on from anywhere in the run. I think his finish will be too big for these and am confident he goes close.

THE DANGER - #x4 - Insurrection
Insurrection likely takes this race out and hasn’t put in a bad effort in his three runs back from a short ten week let up from racing. He’s won two from two in his last, with both of those efforts being 1100m wins at Randwick and the last win was ever so impressive when I counted him out, racing on the speed under LLoyd and looking like he was going to be claimed but just kept finding more and got the job done. I just don’t know how much more he will have to offer here but he doesn’t need to improve too sharply to win this.

VALUE BET - #2 - Inver Park
Knockout chance in this field is Inver Park who makes his debut for Kris Lees and generally does not take much to get going and also gets the booking of Jmac which I think is the key to him and signals intent from the stable. He’s a British import that has been brought over by Lees and has been working his way towards start one with a bunch of trials dating back to March. They clearly want him to have a big start to racing down under and his last few trial efforts have been outstanding. I think he can surprise here if the favourites don’t fire.
