Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 15/02/23

Racing continues at Kensington off the back of an extremely successful and entertaining first group racing meeting at the track on Saturday. There’s an exciting seven race card on the program with $385,000 prize on offer. The track is rated to be a soft 5 and if we don’t get too much rain before it could be upgrade, the rail is out +5m. Follow me below for some solid bets through the card as I run through the racing meeting.

BEST BET - #5 - Atlantic Ocean 
Atlantic Ocean looks well placed to pick up the win here third up off an 11 week spell. He’s run in similar races to these in his last two and his been building up towards peak fitness which we should see him at here. The Waller trained three year old clocked in the race best and one of the meetings best last 600m last time out after giving them a start to end up 4th of 6 but he should improve a lot again from that and I think with Jmac on they are suited to take this out.

THE DANGER - #2 - Journalism

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott combine under Pebble who jumps aboard Journalism from Josh Parr who rode him to a win first up at Wyong before moving to Canterbury and out to this distance range but just couldn’t find one over the winner to end up second to the smart Mystic Mermaid. He should continue to improve from that and can go one better again now.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Wategos (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I am convinced that Wategos is going better than his last two race placings suggest. Particularly, in his last outting he raced in BM78 company and ran a great time for that grade at the 1600m on this track. They look to have the tactics right now to find the lead and be ridden further forward and he gets that opportunity here having drawn the rails. Confident he goes close here.

BEST BET - #4 - Lascars (NEXT BEST)
I think this is a two horse race and am leaning the way of Lascars who is racing for the flying in-form Cummings stable. He is proven first up placing at Flemington in similar company to this when last first up and more so looks ready to go off the back of two successful trials. He maps to be on the speed and get some cover and I think it may only be a matter of pushing the button coming off the turn for Jmac here.

THE DANGER - #6 - Headwall
Headwall has looked very good in his two career starts to date and off the back of his win at Kembla last September before a spell he looked very up to coming to the midweeks. He thrashed them there as a just below odds on favourite and has had two nice looking trials at Hawkesbury to ready him for this, maps to get a similar run to Lascars and I think it will be a close run finish.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Latenighttoughguy 
It was costly for me last time out to back Latenighttoughguy but I am happy to give him another chance as he had some excuses there and has looked very progressive until this point. He draws well, Nash is aboard and if Latenighttoughguy gets clear running and is up for the task he can take this out.

BEST BET - #4 - Powerful Peg 
Powerful Peg is as honest as they come and has been absolutely flying for Kris Lees who himself has been having an unbelievable year. The horse has two wins and two placings this prep and Dylan Gibbons gets his third run on her tomorrow where they look a top chance to go over again. I can’t knock the form with this one, if her run style is good and she can settle in a decent spot I think she will be fighting out the finish.

THE DANGER - #6 - Arranmore
Arranmore is definitely the clear danger in this race off the back of his last two runs where he picked up the win two back over this distance there and then was great in defeat to Wollombi, who looks to be a group horse when second three weeks back over this distance as well. He draws well here, Jmac is on and always has to be respected.

VALUE BET - #10 - Zelady Luck 
Zelady Luck’s times read well for this and whilst she has had a long campaign she is always around the mark. He won here at the beginning of December over the 1250m in a super solid run where she had quite serious injuries and still won bravely. She placed at Warwick farm two runs back as well and that looks good enough for her to be in and around the mark again tomorrow.

A clear top jockey in this meeting is James Mcdonald. He is the best jockey in the country and one of the best in the world. Kensington is his stomping ground and I have already tipped a few of his rides above but I think this looks a particularly good meeting for him. I have highlighted all his rides below:

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.
