Wednesday Racing Tips - Warwick Farm Racecourse 22/02/23

The midweeks kick on at Warwick farm for the penultimate meeting of Febraury and there has been a bit of a theme this month for some progressive first starters / maidens that top stables are looking to push for big Spring preps which should make for an exciting card. There are a bunch of sprints on the card and the lone staying race over the 2400m. The rail is out +5m and the track is expected to be a good 4.

BEST BET - #7 - Outlawed 
Outlawed should have won at his last outing at Newcastle but was unsuccessful in protest when the winner had interfered with his run at the 100m mark. Regardless, he was excellent second up in that run and those two put a big space on the field. He gets the gun draw now and Avdulla retains the ride, he will give them something to catch out front and that is a task the field may not live up to.

THE DANGER - #4 - I Am Jade 
I am Jade is a Waller trained mare who resumes under Jmac on Wednesday and has to be respected on that alone. She was racing in better grade than this last prep but wasn’t able to do too much in that prep. However, in her last run before the spell she ran home very nicely to end up 4th in a tougher race than this. She’s had just the two soft trials to lead her into this and looks well suited in this field.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Secaution (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Secuation is another one who has to be considered here. The Neasham runner has had two trials for her return to racing and has been going like a jet in both. She trucked in the last trial at this track and looked to have a genuine engine under the hood. She’s locally trained as well, this is her home track and I think the stable has geared her up to pick up a first up win on home territory.

BEST BET - #2 - Tip Of The Spear (BEST BET)
I am keen to be with Tip Of The Spear here who drops back in grade after racing at Rosehill for her last two outings back from a spell and last time out she looked to have started to find her footing second up when running bravely home to finish in good time and up 4th in the field. Third up now and out to 2400m as well as dropping back in grade are all ticks and Jmac is on. I think that she likely towels them inside the last 3-400m.

THE DANGER - #5 - Oz Legend  
Oz Legend is a definite threat in this field. He dropped back to this grade last time out when 4th up in his prep from BM78 grade and the step down seemed to be very positive as he ran home into third after sitting on the fence and leading them. However, the slow tempo didn’t suit him at all there as there were plenty waiting to make their runs on the home stretch. He finds a bit more speed here and if he can improve a bit into this it will be a winnable race.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Oceanic Flash
Oceanic Flash is a horse I have a lot of time for and whilst her prep has been a bit all over the place she really does look a winner based off her last run at Kensington over this distance a couple weeks ago. She has taken awhile to get hard fit but looks to be at her peak now, drops down from metro racing and if she can replicate that run again without getting too far back she has the late speed to run them down. Top chance.

BEST BET - #1 - Regal Pom (NEXT BEST)
Regal Pom looks to be in fine form after racing second at this track two back when she really did look the winner and was just nailed late she moved to Canterbury for her fourth up run where she looked hard fit and subsequently raced an awesome time when she chased hard all run to find the front in the last 100m and close that out with a win. She recorded one of the best last 600s of the meeting and meets a similar field here. I think she can run them ragged again.

THE DANGER - #2 - High Court
High Court looks to have returned to the races in great form after a short let up between the end of last year and the beginning of this year. He returned in Saturday grade racing at Randwick over the 1800m and that run was exceptionally brave, he did it wide throughout and still kept coming on strongly to the line to run a good time in better grade than this. He maps for a much softer run in transit this time, Jmac is aboard and I believe the stable has good reason to drop him back in distance for this. 

VALUE BET - #3 - Journalism
Journalism has been outstanding since returning to the races with two placings and a first up win where he thrashed them in softer company at Wyong. Last time out at Kensington in this grade last week he sat just off the fence and battled hard when finally getting clear running late but I think the tough run told and he just ran out of steam a bit to end up third. The time still reads very well for this and with a bit more luck in running he will be handy at the turn and can produce a big finish. Races well with fresh legs so fourth up is my query here.

I have opted to go with a following Jmac multi for this week as he is the clear top Jockey at the meeting and as such gets a top booking of rides. I have outlined a few of his runners in my tips already and as such I think that putting my best of his runners to win and my next two selections of his rides to place is a safer way to still get a bit of value for a fun bet to track over race day.
