I like the look of Need Some Luck in Race 3 at Canterbury on Wednesday. Previously won at Randwick over 1050m. That was a really good win, so I think Need Some Luck should be tough to beat on Wednesday too. Before that, Need Some Luck finished first at Randwick in a Barrier Trial-Open on August 30, 2024, over 740m. Very positive top 3 record as well. Has enjoyed plenty of success at Canterbury with a 100% record of finishing in the top three. Very good stats when it's racing at this 1250m distance. Likes running in good conditions. Has had success when running first-up, with a win and a second in 3 starts.

Best Roughie: Not Surprised #14 Sandown R5
Not Surprised is first-up on Wednesday. Has a positive first-up record in its career. Last start, Not Surprised was 6th of 13 at Doomben on May 25 over 1200m on a soft track, 9.2 lengths behind Clean Energy (56.5kg) with 56.5kg at $14.00. But it should improve here. Previously, 1st of 6 at Sunshine Coast Poly Mdn on May 5, 2024 over 1000m. If it can recapture that form, it should be a good value for punters on Wednesday.

- Canterbury is a much tighter track than most NSW courses, giving significant advantage to close on pacers and those close to the rail in general. It also favours late rails-in-run horses due to the tight turning nature.
- There is a chance of rain at Sandown on Wednesday so the track conditions may change. Keep that in mind.
- The first 3-4 races in most meetings are called "Maidens" and these races are usually risky and unpredictable. This is because the runners are usually making their debut or have only had a few starts. So it's advisable to stay from these races unless you have a good bankroll.
