Big Kate is one of the main chances in this Yarra Valley Race 5 and she has a good record at this course and distance. She has a career win rate of 30% and place rate of 40% in 10 outings and thus her performances have proved that she’s a top contender. Also, she has a perfect record when she runs at this track and distance having competed twice and emerged the winner twice.

Maximum Power has performed well and I like him in this field. From four attempts at this 1200m distance he enjoys a 50% success rate, having won twice and been placed second once.

For this race, Maximum Power has been booked to be ridden by Christopher Pang in the lightly raced 62.5kg and on a soft (5) which is his pet surface. From barrier 6 he’s ready to pounce on his winning record over this trip, and the room for further improvement when racing third up in this prep.

Miss Magoo arrives at Tuesday’s Yarra Valley Race 8 with a perfect strike rate; she has managed to record two starts, 1 win and 1 second. This has become her best distance having recorded a victory in the distance and a second runner-up position in her two races.

Her last race was on January 1, 2025, in Terang 1200m carrying 57.5kg under the ride of Melissa Julius where she emerged the winner in a field of 10 starters out of barrier 3. Before that, she came second at Kyneton on December 12, 2024, over 1203m, with the same weight as well.

For this race, she will again be partnered with Melissa Julius, taking the 61.5kg with a soft (5) track and from gate 7. Coming back to this race distance fit, proven stamina at this distance and having a good second run back again puts Miss Magoo in good stead to give another good run.
