After running a career peak figure in the P.B Lawrence Stakes, Buffalo River resumes here at Caulfield, with a pretty competitive field with Gentleman Roy who was impressive last prep and Group grade winners like Bankers Choice. Another interesting runner to watch here is I Wish I Win making it’s Australian debut.

BEST BET - #2 Buffalo River
Very impressive last time out in the P.B Lawrence Stakes, where it ran a big figure behind Mr Brightside on drier ground, Buffalo River should get back to his preferred going in the soft, with a wet track record of 6 wins and 4 places from 12 starts. On his day can run a much bigger race than the rest here and is looking like one of the day's best betting propositions.

VALUE BET - #10 Winning Partner
Racing very well recently is Winning Partner, has a respectable record here at the track and distance. Last run out here at Caulfield was 2nd behind Turn On The Charm where it finished strongly late. Definitely a winning chance here.

THE DANGER - #3 Bankers Choice
Coming over from New Zealand after winning a Group 3 there, Bankers Choice has been running some good races in Australia in the Doncaster Stakes, Ryder Stakes and Blamey Stakes. A bit easier of an assignment here, has the class experience and the fresh form, is definitely a threat.

The H.D.F McNeil Stakes at Caulfield presents a big step up in class for Caulfield Guineas hopeful, Aft Cabin. PlayUp currently has the James Cummings trained runner marked at $2.50, one of the shorter priced runners on the day but still arguably one of the best bets. The race should be quite competitive given the presence of Group 1 Blue Diamond winner, Daumier. 

BEST BET - #12 Aft Cabin
Aft Cabin ran a very impressive race last time out at Sandown Park, beating the field by 6 lengths after being eased home in the straight. A big jump in class here and back down to 1200m, but I think with the good draw and Jamie Kah booked for the ride he’ll be good enough for the task.

VALUE BET - #4 Crosswinds
Resuming here, Crosswinds has 2 wins from 2 races last prep, easy win on debut at Ballarat on the soft then covered ground late against the pattern to win next time out at Moonee Valley, perhaps a bit green though still impressive. Showing good things in jump outs leading up to Caulfield, could have the upside to win this.

THE DANGER - #1 Daumier
This year’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner, Duamier resumes here at Caulfield. With only one jumpout leading in since last having raced at Randwick in the Inglis Sires where he ran a brave fourth but the 1400m didn’t suit. Back down to 1200m and is definitely has the pedigree to win here.

The Group 1 Memsie Stakes over 1400m presents Victoria’s first Group 1 race of the new season and what a field we have in store, with 8 runners in the race already having notched up a Group 1 win this is going to be a great show. PlayUp is currently showing Alligator Blood as the favourite but I’m happy to take him on here.

BEST BET - #11 Illation
First up, and in his first Group 1 race, what a fantastic opportunity for Illation to prove his worth. In August, he had three starts for three impressive wins, looking like a Group 1 talent from start to finish. Has had some impressive jumpouts in the build-up to this race, and with Jamie Kah on board, I think the stable means business here.

VALUE BET - #14 Snapdancer
Resumes here after a 2-month break, Snapdancer won a Group 1 on a Soft 6 two starts back at Morphettville after an almost identical break. Up to 1400m might be the query here but she showed plenty of courage at this distance last time out at Eagle Farm, only beaten half a length. Presents good value.

THE DANGER - #3 Alligator Blood
A horse who has built a great deal of hype surrounding him after a very good showing in his Brisbane Winter prep where he mowed down the field in the Stradbroke Handicap. Alligator Blood comes into this race off the back of some great prep work and a shorter break than some of the other chances, so should have the fitness. Damien Oliver aboard, who has a knack for winning Group 1s, must be respected.
