Amokura returns, Big bets in review and follows from Saturday

It was a great weekend of horse racing, despite it not being the best weekend in online betting and whilst we did still pick up a few winners in our Saturday racing tips and our best bets tips it was overall quite an all over the place day for Horse racing tips. Below we take a look at some follows from the weekend, as well as Queensland Oaks winner Amokura’s Spring prospects and Big bets in review from the weekend.

QLD oaks winner Amokura won’t be ready for the Cups

The Kris Lees trained Amokura is a six start Veteran who’s debut campaign for the stable saw her have six runs that eventuated in a group 1 races win in the Queensland Oaks for Lees’ second Qld Oaks win and land some lucrative bets across our Aussie betting sites.

About the upcoming season, Lees said, "I gave her six runs in her first racing campaign so I don't want to overdo things with her this spring,”.

Sharp punters will be upset to not see have a chance to back her on the Australian betting sites when the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups are run later this year as Lees has stated that:

"She won't be ready for the Cups… I won't have time to get her ready for them because I wanted to give her a proper break. The logical target for her is going to be the Matriarch Stakes.

Lees says she will have a couple runs in Sydney and if all is going well then they will bring her South for the Matriarch Stakes. He insists that:

"There was nothing of her, she was a big rangy thing so physically she has plenty of growing up to do."

Which is a very exciting thing to hear when you consider that her career debut preparation ended in a Group 1 win and I will be sure to cover her in my horse racing tips when she steps out to race again.

Lees has said that he isn’t overly concerned about what happens with her in the Spring as his “priority and focus will be looking after her because 2024 is going to be a big year for her.".

She is one of the more exciting horses in the country and wherever connections place her I will be sure to cover her prospects in my Saturday racing tips and best bets tips once she steps out to race again.

Follows From Saturday at Randwick
R1: Caballus

I purposely stayed away from the opener at Randwick in my Saturday Tips but one I noticed from the pack was the well bred Caballus who had no luck on debut but ran on very well from far back in the run and clocked some impressive last (400m / 200m) splits to overcome the tough run and score on debut for Waller.

R6: Gently Rolled

You will be sure to see Gently Rolled feature in my Saturday racing tips when he next steps out after proving on Saturday he is up to this grade when coming from the provincials and doing a lot wrong in the run but still being very impressive. He will be a lot sharper the next time he runs. I am confident and am keen to see how he goes.

R7: Smashing Eagle

I am very happy that Smashing Eagle didn’t have the most economical of runs as we had the winner of this race, Mogo Magic as our best of the day in our best bets tips and Saturday racing tips for Randwick but Collett was badly held up until too late in the piece when Smashing Eagle started powering home then. That form is going to read very well wherever he steps out next and I will be sure to cover his prospects in my horse racing tips.

Big Hits and Misses from Saturday’s Racing

The aforementioned Callabus clocked a huge win at odds in the first race of the day at Randwick racecourse and that cost one punter $20,000 who had it on the running favourite, Estriella. Hence why I didn’t cover this race in my Saturday racing tips…

2 x $5000 bets and 1 x $4000 bets were landed on the running favourite Insurrection in as Zac Lloyd secured the Sydney Apprentice Championship and I was convinced that Deepour was going to get the better of him here, who was in my Saturday Racing tips and I now am certain of how genuine Insurrection is. His only loss this campaign came behind the soon to be Group 1 racing, Omni Man. I will be following Insurrection in my Saturday racing tips wherever he is next placed by connections.

3 x $5000 bets on Mogo Magic were landed by punters on Saturday and you love to see it as we had him as our best of the day in Best Bets tips and in my Saturday tips for Randwick racecourse.
