Stefi Magnetica eyeing Stradbroke Handicap-Tattersall's Tiara double

Surprise Stradbroke Handicap winner Stefi Magnetica has set her sights on winning the Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse on 29 June, according to trainer Bjorn Baker. The trainer believes that his filly has what it takes to go from strength to strength and complete the historic double.

Just three horses in history have completed the winter Stradbroke Handicap-Tattersall's Tiara double. Stefi Magnetica currently leads the betting sites odds list with $11 odds.

Highlights

  • Stefi Magnetica won the Stradbroke Handicap by a half-neck on Saturday.
  • Baker is confident about Stefi Magnetica’s chances going forward.
  • The early Tattersall's Tiara betting odds have Stefi Magnetica y as joint favourite with Semana at $11.

Stefi Magnetica wins Stradbroke Handicap

Many horse betting experts identified Stefi Magnetica as one of the horses to watch on Saturday in the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on Saturday.

The filly was listed at $14 to win, well behind favourites Vilana ($4.60) and Antino ($10) but sixth-best overall.

Stefi Magnetica lived up to her dark horse tag, winning the race by half-neck over Bella Nipotina ($15), another top dark horse pick.

The win was jockey Zac Lloyd’s first ever at Group 1 level.

“I was very confident pre-race. She galloped enormous on Tuesday,” Lloyd said after the race.

“My dad and I went through the race thoroughly and we honestly thought we were on the right horse. The first furlong or two went perfect. She was in a good rhythm, she wasn’t over racing.

“Just as a couple of horses started dropping back in our face, I had to make a decision to go around with the pack, but I ultimately thought there’d be too much traffic, so I thought I was travelling so well I was happy to go inside of them.

“It is really good just to get that group one on my resume. I’ve had some great opportunities in the past year or so and I haven’t been able to capitalise. To get the job done today in a very big race, it is very special.”

Trainer undecided about Tattersall's Tiara run

Following the big win, trainer Bjorn Baker spoke at length about the Stradbroke Handicap and what’s next for his new star horse.

“She got all the breaks from a wide gate there in the Straddy and I thought Zac rode her amazingly well, she was able to save ground,” Baker said.

“I watched it from the business centre in the hotel here in London, I think I woke half the place up,” he joked before turning to what’s next for Stefi Magnetica.

“We will have a good think about whether we have a look at the Tatt's Tiara or put her out and look at an Everest tilt, and or the Golden Eagle in the spring,” Baker revealed.

Stefi Magnetica made her debut for Baker in Wellington last year. She’s not had the best record since December, but Baker is confident about Stefi Magnetica’s chances going forward.

“She has done a super job, it's fair to say she has been very unlucky in a few of her last half dozen starts.”

Early Tattersall's Tiara favourites

The betting market is also confident about Stefi Magnetica’s future. The early Tattersall's Tiara betting odds have the filly as joint favourite with Semana at $11.

Chinny Boom ($14) and Bubble Rock ($15) round out the current top four.
