Recent Ascot dominance
While her impressive showing in the WA Guineas on Saturday has everyone talking now, it is not the only big race Storyville has won at Ascot recently.
The daughter of Overshare also won the Group 2 WA Champion Fillies Stakes on November 16.
Overall, Storyville has won two of her four starts at Ascot. Both came in the last two weeks.
This kind of momentum and familiarity with a popular track like Ascot is something horse racing betting fans have noticed, and is one of the biggest reasons she is now a Northerly Stakes betting favourite.
“80-90% of what she’s capable of”
As impressive as Storyville’s win at Ascot was on Saturday, her jockey, William Pike, says the filly was not even at her best in that race.
“I think she is probably only at about 80 or 90% of what she is capable of,” Williams said after the race.
“Hopefully they can pick her back up and maybe they have a tilt at the next one in the Northerly.
“I think she showed a bit of grit there because I really don’t think she was as good there today as she was in the Champion Fillies. The two-week gap will definitely be good but those decisions are up to the team, they know better than I do, I turn left for a living,” Williams added.
Trainers hoping to replicate success
While Storyville is one of the top Northerly Stakes betting favourites, the filly has actually yet to be confirmed for the $1.5 million race. However, her trainers are confident that she has a great chance of running at Ascot next month.
“She’s nominated,” co-trainer Grant Williams said about the Northerly Stakes.
“We hope so (that she runs in the Northerly). She’s done a huge job.”
The Williams’ have won the Northerly States four times. Two of those wins were with three-year-old fillies such as Storyville. Perfect Reflection won in 2015, while Arcadia Queen finished first in the 2018 edition.
