Friday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 08/12/23

A big meeting comes this Friday to Canterbury with half a million dollars up for grabs across the eight races and I am keen to get into things and have gone across the card and picked out my best three betting spots as well as the other runners I am lending chances to. It should prove to be quite a solid day of betting so follow me below as I run through the days racing at Canterbury!

Canterbury R3 - Schweppes Mdn Hcp (1100m)

Selections:
#1 - Hokusai - $3.20
#9 - Wezza - $4.20
#11 - Waterski - $5.00
#3 - Monte Kate (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $9.00

BEST BET - #1 - Hokusai
Competitive field here and I think that’s probably why Hokusai hasn’t come up at shorter odds than he likely would have but regardless I think this Waterhouse / Bott product will prove tough to beat here and I am keen to have something on. He resumed from a decently long spell at The Hawkesbury last time out where he ran inside the leader the majority of the run before powering to the line in a strong effort and only finding one better in a horse who has since won again. Go close here.

THE DANGER - #9 - Wezza
Wezza hasn’t put in a bad effort in his three runs for the Minnervini stable and now resumes off a 24 week spell and should be prominent here from the decent draw, well weighted and with Collett on. He comes off of a recent trial at Newcastle over the 800m where he was in his stride very well over the 800m to place second there.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Monte Kate (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I think that Monte Kate can make an impact here on debut for the Price camp at a big price. He comes into this ready to make his debut after four trials and particularly the two most recent trials where he has won sharply at both Kembla and Warwick Farm. He looks like a front running horse which is perfect for Hippo who gets the booking.

Canterbury R5 - Bivouac First Yearlings (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#4 - Tsarina Sophia (NEXT BEST) - $5.00
#2 - Afterlight - $3.30
#9 - Power Ballard - $4.80
#8 - Silent Raindrops - $9.50

BEST BET - #4 - Tsarina Sophia (NEXT BEST)
Another good contest which has shaped up to be quite high level but I think that Tsarina Sophia is the leading contender and I am pleased to see she gets the booking of Lloyd here. She resumed two weeks ago at this track off of a 24 week spell and has proven to be back in a good way when running a powerful second place despite being held up for a run for a long time in that race. Fitter and with a bit more luck this time around she should take this out.

THE DANGER - #2 - Afterlight
Afterlight has won two from four this time in and I don’t see much of a reason why he can’t win again tomorrow with Nash aboard. He dropped back from Saturday grade last start when racing at Warwick Farm over the 1200m and after jumping awkwardly recovering in the run and proving far too strong with them when winning well. He only has to run up to that effort to be prominent here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Silent Raindrops
Silent Raindrops can make an impression here as he has done in his last three starts for Joe Pride. He’s placed in two and won one of them two back at Gosford, which was a very impressive win as he managed to get the better of them from way out wide. His last start saw him flying home from out wide where he just found one better who has gone on to win again since. He should be strong here.

Canterbury R8 - TAB (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#x10 - Accredited (BEST BET) - $4.00
#11 - Grand Crusader - $6.00
#2 - Chief Conductor - $6.50
#8 - Border Control - $8.50

BEST BET - #10 - Accredited (BEST BET)
Accredited comes into this as one of the sharpest horses and I think he can make it three wins in four career starts here. He looks like a very good horse for Joe Pride after resuming from a 19 week break from racing a couple weeks ago and being held up until the 200m but once the split came he absolutely jetted to the line between horses to win well. I expect only improvement off of that and think he wins again.

THE DANGER - #11 - Grand Crusader
Grand Crusader is a long way back in depth here and should be at his peak third up for the Hawkes camp. He resumed with a sharp placing at Moonee Valley before last running at Sandown where he set fourth in the run and had to do a tonne of work on the speed before just being overrun late. He should get a more economical run this time in, is hard fit and ready to win now.

VALUE BET - #8 - Border Control
Border Control has been very honest in his two runs back for the Duggan camp and I think can make an impact here again. He won first up over the 1000m at Gosford before last running at the same track and trip where he just couldn’t get one over a very progressive looking horse in Martial Music but still was flying home to place second there. Will undoubtedly run a race again.

Multi Tips For Canterbury

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances. Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
