Canterbury racing under the lights is in full swing with our second card in two weeks and with half a million dollar’s worth of prize money on the card as we look towards Saturday’s listed racing and things really start to heat up with the Autumn Group 1 races season commencing. I am very much looking forward to this card and have outlined my best betting spots below so follow me!

Canterbury R2 - James Squire (Bm64) (1550m)

Selections:
#1 - Don Pedro (NEXT BEST) - $2.90
#2 - Turned Down - $4.80
#5 - Surreal I Am - $5.00
#3 - Dulcet - $5.50

BEST BET - #1 - Don Pedro (NEXT BEST)
Surely this is a solid chance for Don Pedro to get the win aboard for this prep, and if not he really is a milk drinker. He has only won the two races from fourteen starts but has been building towards a win very nicely thus far this campaign with his three runs back from a spell seeing him run home well each time, with the two most recent efforts being in Saturday grade. He shapes up well here off the back of those efforts and the win should come now.

THE DANGER - #2 - Turned Down
Turned Down has only had the one career start for John O’Shea, coming just shy of three weeks ago at this course but all you can do is win and that’s exactly what he did off the back of a few sharp trials to lead him into racing he sat outside the leader most of the run before letting down at the 200m and never being in doubt from there. Shapes up well here if he can overcome second up syndrome.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Surreal I Am
Surreal I Am is another horse that rates very highly here for Kris Lees and this guy has only been going well in his debut campaign so there’s no real reason to jump off him now. He had two sharp first outings at the races where he clocked back to back placings before really getting going last time out at Doomben over the 1650m where he was ready to fire third up and subsequently did in a sharp display. Hard fit, in form, can win this.

Canterbury R3 - Ranvet Mdn Plate (1100m)

Selections:
#2 - Les Vampires - $2.50
#3 - Ballet D'esprit - $3.40
#1 - The Years (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.50
#6 - Ces Soirees La - $10.00

BEST BET - #2 - Les Vampires
I think that Les Vampires should be about even odds to take this out upon returning for just her fourth career start for the Waterhouse / Bott camp and she comes here off the back of two sharp trials in which Hippo has ridden her for both and in her most recent Rosehill trial she was powerfully running home behind a smart horse in Godfather. Only thing she has to handle is the big weight but all things being equal she wins this.

THE DANGER - #3 - Ballet D'esprit
Two career starts for a placing and a win is not a bad way to kick off the career for Mick Freedman’s Ballet D’espirit who comes here third up and hard fit under Keegan Latham’s steering off of two sharp efforts. His most recent run came a couple weeks back at Randwick on the Kensington track where he bounced well from the midfield draw, found the front and never let anything else get into the race when winning very well. I think hard fit third up, the extra 100m should pose no issues for him and he will be honest as ever here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - The Years (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Years hasn’t raced much since promising to be quite a sharp horse for the Waterhouse and Bott stable back this time last year. He had one run in August last year but where he didn’t look bad from out front before just fading later in the piece. I think now that he’s had plenty of time to have some work done by one of the best stables in horse racing and off the back of two nice trials to lead him back into racing he can make an impression first up here.

Canterbury R5 - The Agency Real Estate (Bm72) (1900m)

Selections:
#4 - Unusual Legacy (BEST BET) - $2.60
#7 - Ring Ahoy - $4.20
#1 - Malabar - $6.00
#3 - Notabadbuy - $11.00

BEST BET - #4 - Unusual Legacy (BEST BET)
Unusual Legacy has had an amazing start to his career for Chris Waller and it is hard to see him slowing down now. He’s had just the three runs to kick things off but has won two and placed runner up in the other since coming across from NZ where he won on debut. His most recent win at Newcastle was very sharp and I think hard fit third up here he still has some improvement to put on display.

THE DANGER - #7 - Ring Ahoy
Two wins in twenty four runs make Ring Ahoy a milk drinker in my eyes but one of those wins came last time out two weeks ago at this course so with that said I do think now he is in hot form and if he’s going to win anywhere it’s at this track and trip. He hasn’t been out of the placings in five runs at this trip, with the win as well last time out at this track / trip combination and he can’t be counted out here.

VALUE BET - #3 - Notabadbuy
I am all over these Waterhouse / Bott runners at the course tomorrow and this guy came off of an enormous 62 week spell at Gosford two weeks back over the 1600m when resuming off of a couple trials and put on an extremely impressive display being first up in such a long time and over a big trip as he drove to the front at the top of the straight and the field essentially couldn’t catch him from there. He will be a lot fitter for that effort and rates highly here.

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances. Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
