Friday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 10/02/23

The midweeks continue at Canterbury for the second card of February off the back of a successful Saturday grade bunch of contests here and we get a stacked eight race card with nearly half a million prize across the races. Most of the racing will be over the mid distances from 1200m-1550m with the lone staying race at 1900m. The rail is in true position and the track is predicted to be a good 4 but I think we could see downgrades with all the rain in NSW.

BEST BET - #7 - De An Andretti - (BEST BET)
De An Andretti is a horse I have followed through his career and been burnt on but I have time for him and am willing to give him another chance again here. He took a four week break from the races before racing at this track and trip three weeks ago, being super honest there to only go down in the last 150m to end up third. I think he is a progressive horse who will be fitter and smarter for that and can come back a winner now.

THE DANGER - #4 - Essonne
Essonne has found form in brilliant style and she can definitely go on with it here. She ran a greater second placing at Randwick in a Midway behind the progressive Garrison and then got the conditions she wanted to narrowly but impressively win at this track last time out. She’s a winner again and can continue to stack up a few more now.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Nicci’s Fling (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Nicci’s Flind has to be over the odds here in this field. The Portelli runner comes into this off the back of a solid run three weeks back over the 1400m at Randwick. She got too far back there but made great ground late in the piece. I am certain that she is better than it reads on paper and with Dylan Gibbons on and a soft draw I think that she really can win this.

BEST BET - #5 - Kazou (BEST BET)
Kazou is short but she is a filly who could be moving onto Group racing quite easily with a win now. She debuted at Randwick in October and was far too good for those, finding the front easily and smashing them by 3-4 lengths in an impressive time. She could have gone on to stakes racing after that bu the stable sent her back to the paddock after that and I think she will resume a winner, so does the market.

THE DANGER - #3 - Citizenship
Citizenship is a serious colt for the Maher and Eustace stable who defied a big betting drift when on debut at this track on the wet ground. He went through the motions nicely during that run to win smartly and with something in hand there. I’m not sure how much progression he will have into this but there should be at least a bit and if the favourite doesn’t fire he will be right there. 

VALUE BET  - #8 - Syrian Star
Syrian Star is a filly racing for the Northam stable and she could be onto bigger things than this. She resumed in a Highway a few weeks ago at Randwick and looked like if she was given any clear running at all that she would have thumped them. She was instead luckless and ended up getting held up and checked a bunch to end up fourth there. She is fit and up in distance on a decently big track now, she can run into the placings late for sure.

BEST BET - #2 - Dynamic Impact (NEXT BEST)
Dynamic impact is flying of late and has to be respected again in another winnable race here. He raced last Wednesday here under Jason Collett who rode him a peach, sitting in a nice spot just off the speed to draw clear of them late. His engine looks super genuine which can make up for a lack of luck in running. As long as gate one is okay I think he wins this.

THE DANGER - #8 - Game Theory
Game Theory is screaming for a win after running second to Dynamic Impact in last week’s meeting here. Jmac gave him every chance there, sitting in a nice spot off the speed but he just fell short to Dynamic impact. If Dynamic impact succumbs to the gate then Game theory will have every chance to go one better than him this time and Clipperton can see him take this out.

VALUE BET - #12 - Devil’s Triangle
It was a toss up for me between Devil’s Triangle and Julian Rock as the outside chances for this one but I think that Devil’s triangle really does have a bit of talent. He has been kept fresh for this and I think she probably is being put forward for bigger races but that doesn’t mean that she can’t take this out regardless. She was a super strong winner at Moruya over a similar distance in mid December and I think if she shows up fresh she can surprise the two above.
