Friday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 15/12/23

A big meeting comes this Friday to Canterbury with half a million dollars up for grabs across the eight races and I am keen to get into things and have gone across the card and picked out my best three betting spots as well as the other runners I am lending chances to. It should prove to be quite a solid day of betting so follow me below as I run through the days racing at Canterbury!

BEST BET - #7 - Northern Eyes (BEST BET)
I do think that Northern Eyes gets the job done here for Chris Waller despite being a little bit short for my liking. He stepped out about a month ago here when flying home behind the impressive Mogwai as those two put a space on third. He’s had a tick over trial since and should be sharp.

THE DANGER - #3 - Aix En Provence
The only other one that the market is really backing with some confidence is Aix En Provence for Sara Ryan. He has gone awfully close to a win in his two career starts with the last being a sharp placing at Newcastle behind some smart horses. Hard fit now third up and crying out for a win, I think he gets his chance.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Abuse Of Power
Abuse Of Power is one i can entertain at longer odds and who has done little wrong in his two runs back from a spell this time in. He has clocked sharp placings in both of them with the last being a runner up placing at Hawkesbury where he was only run down very late after being a clear leader most of the straight. Well placed here and a nice price.

BEST BET - #7 - Ring Ahoy
You would have to think that dropping a fair bit back in depth and being better for a run at this track and trip last time out that Ring Ahoy is going to get the job done. He’s a bit of a milk drinker with just the one win in twenty starts but does seem to have returned to racing in career best form after putting together multiple sharp placings but I’m just not sure I can keep betting him.

THE DANGER - #5 - Brynner
Brynner put together a sharp win two back over this track and trip when coming from behind the speed to storm over the top of them and win well before stepping out in a Kensington midweek a few weeks back in BM72 company behind some sharp horses were he produced a similar effort to come from the back, swing out wide and storm home, into third place that time. He comes into this hard fit, back a bit in depth and can get another win now.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Our Bambino (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
A runner I am very interested to see what the market does with and I have put a small bet on already as I suspect she will be a lot shorter come jump is Our Bambino for the Murphy camp. She’s the highest rating horse in this field and one of the only runners that comes out of Saturday grade when finishing down the track behind Zegalo last time out at Rosehill. She gets in light with the claim from Stanley and only runs well for me.

BEST BET - #2 - Shines (NEXT BEST) 
Shine should be ready to go here first up for the Hawkes camp who traditionally go very well with their first up runners. He’s got a great fresh record with a win and runner up placing in three first up runs and comes back to racing here with the benefit of a very sharp Rosehill trial win where he looks to be very much in his stride. I think he rates highly here and should be winning.

THE DANGER - #3 - Diamond Diesel
Very key danger in Diamond Diesel for the Duggan camp who is also resuming in this race and comes here off of a 20 week spell and with the benefit of two trials. The most recent of which saw him moving with a lot of intent at Newcastle to place second and he has a great fresh record. All signs point to a big showing first up.

VALUE BET - #4 - Oakfield Duke
The other main chance has to be Oakfield Duke who is making his stable debut for Kris Lees after changing hands from Kristen Buchanan and he boasts a pretty good fresh record with two placings in three first up runs but I do think with the Lees polish he can go one better now. He’s had two trials to ready him for this and rates well here.

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances.
