Friday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 16/02/24

Another Friday night of racing under the lights at Canterbury and I am very excited for this week’s card as we see some of the premiere stables in NSW sending forward runners who look to be progressive as the Autumn Group 1 races season is underway and a lot of these runners should be looking towards higher level racing in the near future. I have run through the card and outlined my best betting spots below so follow me!

Canterbury R2 - James Squire (Bm64) (1550m)

Selections:
#3 - Gaylord (NEXT BEST) - $3.60
#4 - Invader Zim - $5.50
#11 - Yayoi - $5.50
#6 - Life Coach - $7.50

BEST BET - #6 - Life Coach
I was actually in the corner of Gaylord on debut at the beginning of this month a couple weeks back where he stepped out in the company of a few other sharp looking debutants at this track over the 1100m and ran a very pleasing debut to where he was no match for the winner but the two of them put a big gap on the rest of the field. Better for the experience, out an extra couple hundred meters in trip now I think all things considered he goes well here.

THE DANGER - #4 - Invader Zim
Invader Zim looks set to have a big return to racing for Chris Waller here for just his second career start and comes here off the back of a bunch of sharp trials where he has really gotten going in each and been strong through the line with the latest being a runner up trial placing to a horse that promises big things. Gets a good draw and the booking of Nash signals intent, the one to beat for me.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Life Coach
Life Coach shapes up well here for the Lazzarini stable third up and after producing two very solid efforts in running this time in. The most recent of which saw him set second and two wide in the run and still having a kick in the straight to hold onto second place but not having enough to win there. He’s hard fit third up here, has been crying out for a win and has to be respected here.

Canterbury R3 - James Squire (Bm64) (1550m)

Selections:
#6 - Zarrose - $2.50
#3 - Dulcet - $5.50
#9 - Little Baia  - $8.50
#1 - Apollo Mission (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)  - $11.00

BEST BET - #6 - Zarrose
Zarrose strikes a winnable race here with a few milk drinkers around him and I think that the Snowden’s have sent out most of their runners to this meeting with a fair bit of intent. This guy has already recorded two wins in his short six start career and looks set to pick up another here after winning first up and then running home powerfully last time out at Warwick Farm over the Mile. Hard fit third up, in form and not too many key threats around him, he’s the one to beat.

THE DANGER - #3 - Dulcet
The market is giving Dulcet a real go and I can see why. He’s only been unplaced in one of his four career starts, got the maiden win out the way early and easy and he shapes up well here. He’s had three trials to lead him back into racing and whilst they haven’t been anything to write home about they certainly have prepped him to have a big fresh run at the races. Clark gets the booking and Waller is the top trainer at this course for a reason.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Apollo Mission (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Hard to knock an in form horse and Apollo Mission is just that. He has won two of his past four runs and placed in the other two, the most recent run came at Gosford where he stepped out over the mile and did a bit wrong early but recovered through the run and shifted across heels at the 220m before jetting away to win well. He shapes up well here off the back of that.

Canterbury R4 - TAB (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#5 - Wild Botanica (BEST BET) - $2.40
#2 - Elegant Empress - $4.20
#7 - Field Wiri - $8.00
#10 - Everyone's A Star - $10.00

BEST BET - #5 - Wild Botanica (BEST BET)
Wild Botanica seems to have come back to racing better than ever for Joe Pride off the back of a very long 40 week spell where he resumed to racing at Warwick Farm just under three weeks ago where he set fifth in the run before starting a big run in the straight and running home very well to beat all but the sharp winner there. He has won two from three second up, will be much fitter for that run off the long spell and looks the one to beat here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Elegant Empress
Elegant Empress is a very real danger here, especially with the booking of Nash which makes her even more dangerous. She’s made three of her nine career starts winning ones and two of those have come at her last two runs as she seems to be in career best form. Her most recent run and win was over the 1000m at Goulburn a couple weeks ago when not giving anything else a chance to get into the race. Rates highly here.

VALUE BET - #7 - Field Wiri
Field Wiri also has to rate as some sort of chance here for the Freedman’s. He really got going last time out when dropping back from Saturday grade racing to Newcastle a couple weeks ago as he came wide in the straight from deep in the field to absolutely charge home and clock a big run in the straight to finish runner up. Hard fit now he can make an impact here.

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances. Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
