Friday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 19/01/24

First Canterbury meeting of the year with a half a million dollar race card lined up for us and we have seven high level contests on the program tomorrow with a bunch of super progressive horses from NSW who are looking to kick off Summer preps or are already in the depths of them and I have picked out my best betting spots so follow me below!

#3 - Amati  - $3.60

BEST BET - #2 - Hellfire Express (BEST BET) 
Hard to jump off Hellfire Express for Annabel Neasham now after winning three in a row and making it four career wins in six career starts and this horse comes out of a run at this track and trip a couple weeks ago where she was bumped at the jump, forced wide and still overpowered them from four wide in the straight. She’s hard fit, gets Jmac on and maps for a much softer run, can win again and step out to Provincial racing.

THE DANGER - #3 - Amati
Being almost equally backed in the market is Amati who rates highly here second up from a break for Chris Waller. He resumed off of a 12 week break from racing at this track over the 1250m a couple weeks ago when racing along the fence and finally finding a run in the last couple hundred metres when he kept battling away in a nice return. There’s been a subsequent winner out of that race and I think overall that race was deceptively strong so go close here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Cirebon
Cirebon has been very strong lately for Sara Ryan and I think it would be foolish to count him out here. He won very well at Scone over the 1300m two back when coming from behind the speed to emerge the clear best. He then stepped out at this track and trip last time out when being three wide in the straight and still flying home to place runner up there. Should be very strong here.

BEST BET - #1 - Dakota Vroom 
Dakota Vroom resumed excellently to racing for Chris Waller off of a 21 week spell last time out and made it two wins in five career starts. He returned to racing at this track over the 1100m when coming across heels four wide in the straight and chasing very hard to claim the race in the dying lengths. I think he shapes up very well off the back of that and will only be tougher here.

THE DANGER - #7 - Tycoon Deshauna
Tycoon Deshauna has had just the one run to kick her career off for the Waterhouse / Bott stable but rates very highly off the back of it and I think it would be foolish to discount any juvenile from this stable. The run came over the 1100m here a couple weeks back when setting second and two wide in the run but still finding plenty to fight hard and win. Just needs to beat the second up syndrome here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Taormina (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Taormina had a very promising start to her career for the Waterhouse / Bott camp, winning two in a row to kick her career off and comes back here after bombing out at the beginning of December at Doomben when the vet said she had some serious issues recovering from her prior run. She’s been given a break now and clocked a very sharp trial last time she stepped out at this track. Looks well placed and ready to run well again.

BEST BET - #1 - Xpresso (NEXT BEST) 
Xpresso looks a smart horse for Nathan Doyle who should be approaching his peak here. He has had two runs back from a spell and in his last run he stepped out three weeks between runs at Randwick in Saturday company when running on very well from behind the speed to place runner up there. He looks set to peak third up here, the stable is absolutely flying and I think he just wins this.

THE DANGER - #9 - Lovero
Is Lovero a milk drinker? I don’t think so but he has the two wins in 10 career starts and now comes back from a 23 week spell off the back of a few sharp trials and making his debut for the Ryan and Alexiou camp here. His most recent trial was a very nice piece of work when stepping out at Rosehill and displaying a strong stride throughout the 900m trial to win well. Market backing him with confidence too but just a bit short for me.

VALUE BET - #2 - Deep Romance
Another horse that looks very sharp for Nathan Doyle is Deep Romance who has already won or placed in six of his fifteen career starts and came off a 28 week spell last time out at Newcastle when coming from three wide in the run to chase very hard in the straight and claim the race in a strong go. He does race best with fresh legs so if another win is going to come it comes now.

I had Daniel as my top jockey for a midweek meeting earlier this week and the philosophy behind it stays the same. I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances.
