Canterbury Racecourse 24/02/23

Friday nights at Canterbury Racecourse continue for what has already been an exciting few weeks of racing at the track. There are eight races on the card, a handful of them being over sprint distance and there are some mid distance / staying races as well. I think there will be some nice types going around that are preparing for big Autumn Carnival’s. The track is rated a soft 7 and the rail is out +6m.

Canterbury R2 - TAB (BM64) (1200m)

Selections:
#4 - Demiana - $2.40
#7 - Lomandra (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $6.50
#5 - Rakomelo - $8.50
#6 - Street Gossip - $9.50

BEST BET - #4 - Demiana- (BEST BET)
Demiana debuted at the races mid december last year at this track when she raced bravely to win impressively over this distance. The time was pretty good there and she’s had a little break, trialled strongly the other week for her return and can make it 2/2 with Jmac aboard.

THE DANGER - #5 - Rakomelo
Rakomelo is a Cummings Gelding who looks to be well placed in this race and in these conditions. He resumed to the races at the end of January on a Heavy 8 track at Kembla over this distance and looked very good there, after racing wide he just had far too much for them in hand. Cummings has to be respected on the Juveniles and Rakomelo has proved that he handles the going so I think he is a top chance here.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Lomandra (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Lomandra is a talented filly for the Hawkes stable who debuted in the Quezette in Spring when behind Bound For Home before being spelled and then resumed at Warwick Farm in a maiden where she led throughout  and beat home the big prospect Pereille. However that form hasn’t read as well after Pereille went down as a short favourite yesterday at the Midweeks. However, Lomandra really does look up to this task even if the form around her doesn’t stack up right now.

Canterbury R5 - THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE (BM72) (1250m)

Selections:
#4 - Pungo (BEST BET) - $2.20
#3 - Pole Position - $7.00
#6 - Jayanthi - $5.50
#7 - Shohei - $6.00

BEST BET - #4 - Pungo (BEST BET)
Pungo was very good in the Spring but has been away from the races for a little while now and I think he is ready for a big showing upon resuming. He ended the Spring prep with a gritty 5th place in the Carbine Club and now after his recent Rosehill trial and after being gelded this looks very much like the stables effort to boost his ratings and go to Stakes grade.

THE DANGER - #3 - Pole Position
Pole Position has been winning since coming to Joseph Pride and resuming from a half year layoff from the races. He picked up a Tough on pace win at Wyong when fresh on similar going to what we get at Canterbury tomorrow. He then went to Newcastle where he relished the bigger track and picked up another on pace win. He takes a step up in competition here but he’s fit and should land on the speed again and can take this out.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Jayanthi
I do think that Jaythani has to be respected off her last run when winning at Warwick Farm over the 1100m. That win was a very strong one when she chased hard from off the speed to find the front and put them away and I think third up now, fitter and better for the runs as well as the claim from Dylan Gibbons hopping aboard all make her an enticing prospect to make it 2 from 3 this prep.

Canterbury R7 - KIA NIGHT SPRINT FINAL (BM78) (1100m)

Selections:
#5 - Diamond Dealer (NEXT BEST) - $2.90
#4 - Mars Mission - $2.90
#1 - Destination - $7.50
#2 - Classy Jaybee - $14.00

BEST BET - #5 - Diamond Dealer
Diamond Dealer goes on top for me in what does look to be a two horse race. Three runs back she led and won over similar track conditions to this on this track before going to Randwick and doing the same and then going to Warwick farm last time out where they rode her to sit and it didn’t work out when she placed second to Jaythani. With Jmac aboard they can slide forward from the wide gate and if she finds front running I imagine she will be hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #4 - Mars Mission
Mars Mission resumes for the Hawkes camp and has been very good in his career so far. He hasn’t raced since Gong Day when he was caught wide with no cover all trip and he still managed to fight on down the home stretch behind Cuban Royal, who has been successful in stakes grade since. He is good in running with fresh legs and whilst he also draws a tricky gate I think he is a big threat.

VALUE BET - #1 - Destination

Destination clocked one of the best last 600m’s of the meeting a few weeks back at Rosehill and has been ultra consistent this campaign, rarely running a bad time or race. He draws to sit close in the run, Gibbons jumps aboard and he drops down in distance which I actually fancy in his case. I think that if the two favourites get held up or just don’t show up that he will be right there to run over them.

Jockey Of The Day – Dylan Gibbons

Dylan Gibbons has been holding form brilliantly this year, picking up a bunch of winners for some top stables and he gets a similar booking of rides for Canterbury where he is racing for the Baker and Maher and Eustace camps amongst others. R5 - #6 - Jayanthi - $5.50
R6 - #10 - Lovetheinvasion - $11.00
R7 - #1 - Destination - $7.50

Multi Tips For Canterbury Racecourse

I am opting with a ‘riskier’ multi for Canterbury this week as I am quite confident in some of the top picks of the card as I believe there are some Stakes / Saturday grade horses that are being prepped or have been carefully put into these races to boost ratings and as such we should seek to capitalise on those mismatches. Follow me below for a fun bet to track over race day!

R5 - #4 - Pungo - WIN $2.20

Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
