Friday Racing Tips - Coffs Harbour Racecourse 04/08/23

A big regional NSW meeting comes to Coffs Harbour tomorrow and I am keen to pick up some winners here with eight competitive contests on the card that sees some of the top NSW and QLD stables setting forward runners who are coming back from town or who look to be progressing to town and I think there are some very solid betting spots on the card. It’s quite a tricky track to get the bias right but I aim to follow the track bias in my selections and I think we have a good shot of hitting some value plays here so follow me below as I outline the day’s racing at Coffs Harbour below!

Coffs Harbour R1 - Ooh Media Plate (1200m)

Selections:
#4 - Talma I Love Her (BEST BET) - $4.20
#8 - Rockabilly Rebel - $2.80
#7 - Fools Play - $5.00
#6 - Erelle - $12.00

BEST BET - #4 - Talma I Love Her (BEST BET)
Lots of chances in the opener but I think that Talma I Love Her has a bit of class about her and can take this out. He’s third up today after returning to racing off of a long 22 week spell at Grafton where he looked like he needed the run and then coming here three weeks between runs and showing big improvements to lead here where the winner was on his back all run and got the better of him late when those two were a ways in front. He rates a fair bit over this lot and Wadick retains the ride which sees him get in at 55.5kg and I think he finds the front again and holds these off. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #8 - Rockabilly Rebel
Rockabilly Rebel maps to cross early with Talma I Love Her and if Rachel King can give her the right kind of steer she will be sitting on Talma’s back and waiting to run over her late and I suspect that’s why this Bjorn Baker product is current running favourite. She placed on debut at Wyong two runs back and showed her talent there before going to Kembla where she seemingly was going to come on in the straight looking for a run at the 200m but just didn’t do much and I suspect that effort was too bad to be true. She’ll be fit third up and strikes an easy contest but just not sure she’s going as well as the aforementioned runner.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Fools Play
Not the biggest value play exactly but I think Fools Play is likely to fill a trifecta spot here having only his second career start for the Jarvis stable. He debuted here a couple weeks back over the 1200m and set 10th and two wide from the bad draw but overcame that impressively when starting a huge run on the turn to pass all but the quinella in a bold effort. He maps for a much softer run in a smaller field and will have plenty more to offer at just his second career start. Top chance.

Coffs Harbour R2 - Grant Bastian Memorial (Bm74) (1000m)

Selections:
#2 - Debussy  - $2.60
#8 - Baiyka - $5.50
#10 - Ain't She Lovely (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.00
#1 - Alpha Go- $10.00

BEST BET - #2 - Debussy (BEST BET)
Honest contest here but I think that Debussy rates a fair bit in front of these and can win again here. He resumed off a 16 week spell at Port Macquarie where he had a bold showing before stepping up into town at Rosehill in Saturday grade where he was never headed and then going to Grafton last time out where he set three back on the rail and got a rail hugging split to motor away from the field and win well. He stays in this provincial company and now, Buckley aboard and maps to have every chance.

THE DANGER - #8 - Baiyka
Baiyka was one of the placegetters in Debussy’s last start win at Grafton and will be sure to improve here as that effort came first up off a three month break from racing where he sat just behind Debussy in the run on the rail and was just held up at a crucial stage in the straight but still ran on well to place third. Second up now with more to offer and should be afforded every chance from the draw, keen to see what he does with clear air in the straight here and maps to be on the right part of the course for this sprint.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Ain't She Lovely (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Ain’t She Lovely should be a big improver here for the Morrisson camp. He returned to racing off a long 26 week spell a fortnight ago at Doomben where he began very well, crossing to lead them out early and stayed on pretty solidly but his long time off racing told in the straight when he was just eased out of it late. He drops 100m back now, will be much fitter for the run and clearly has the talent to run well off the site he gave from out front last start. I think he can run a nice race at odds.

Coffs Harbour R7 - FM Glenn Constructions Daniel Baker Sprint (1200m)

Selections:
#11 - Stonecoat (NEXT BEST) - $4.20
#12 - King Of The Castle- $6.00
#7 - Battleton - $9.50
#6 - Attractable - $10.00

BEST BET - #11 - Stonecoat
Awesome contest here where we see a bunch of our Saturday grade runners taking a step back in competition for the Daniel Baker Sprint but the Waterhouse and Bott giants sent forth Stonecoat who rates a long way in front of this field and I think likely takes this out without too much trouble. He’s had just the three runs this campaign, all of which at Randwick for one win and a close placing last time out. That placing came behind the likes of Tazaral who went out last weekend and thrashed a listed field so that form clearly reads very well for this and he wasn’t beaten far away then. Front running, hard fit, King on and I am confident he takes this out.

THE DANGER - #12 - King Of The Castle
King of The Castle is a Joe Pride trained Gelding who has been running in the same company as Stonecoat and has been up for awhile which is the query for me as to how much steam he has left in the tank but if he can run up to his last start effort he wins this. He ran in the same Tazaral race as Stonecoat a couple weeks ago at Randwick where he ran on the leader’s heels and chased hard to find the front but the winner was far too strong for them late. That effort reads extremely well for this and I’m not sure how much upside he has left but he doesn’t need to find much to take this out.

VALUE BET - #7 - Battleton
We had Battleton in our Saturday racing tips last weekend at Randwick racecourse and he can’t be discounted off the back of that effort where he was 3 or so lengths off the lead but awkwardly placed coming into the straight and was badly held up until the 100m where he still managed ton make up a few lengths and finish just off the placegetters but was overall inconclusive and now finds the easiest contest that he has in some time and maps for a soft run in transit with Ben Looker aboard he should get every chance and can turn the tide on some key rivals.

Jockey Of The Day – James Orman

If you’ve been following me for a bit you know how much love I have for Jimmy Orman who gets a nice booking of rides for tomorrow’s meeting and I think we should see him go over on at least one of them. R2 - #5 - Kalea - $7.50
R3 - #1 - Clairvue Star - $2.20

Multi Tips For Coffs Harbour Racecourse

I have applied a similar strategy for my multi at Coffs Harbour to that of my midweek Multi at Warwick farm as I have tipped a lot in the earlier races I think there are a few standout types in these lower grade races who have been carefully placed by their stables for ratings purposes and who look to be moving onto Metro grade racing in the future. With a bit of luck I think we should be in the money here early on, follow me below for a fun bet to track over race day!

Best Promotions for Coffs Harbour Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
