Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 05/04/24

Racing returns to Cranbourne again this Friday for a great eight race card under the lights and we have $320,000 of prize money on offer across the card with some high level debutants at the races in VIC this Friday evening as well as some horses who are deeper into their preps and I am very keen on this card so let’s get stuck into things!

BEST BET - #6 - Spellmaster
Spellmaster returned to racing off of a 29 week spell for the Busutting and Young camp when stepping out at Pakenham over the 1400m at the end of last month and making a very good return, speeding through to lead and fighting hard to only peek inside the last 50m of the run and be overrun by a smart one who had Shinn aboard and got an A1 run. He should be very tough to beat with natural progression in this field.

THE DANGER - #2 - Secret Stones
Being a ten start maiden does scare me about Secret Stones but in saying that he has looked awfully close to winning on a number of occasions and doesn’t seem far away at all now. He last stepped out at this track three weeks between runs mid last month when chasing hard into second place late and off the back of that effort I think he again should be prominent here.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Missile Meg (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Missile Meg is another who has had a lot of runs without breaking through but he has recently switched camps and come over to Enver Jusufovic and came off of a seven week break to make his stable debut at Pakenham behind Spellmaster where he only really got going late but once he did it was very eyecatching when powering home into fourth place. I think he shapes up well off the back of that effort and should be strong here.

BEST BET - #4 - Drift Net (BEST BET)
Drift Net resumed off of a 17 week spell for James Cummings and looks to have come back to racing in a big way after stepping out at Kyneton at the beginning of last month where he sat second and two wide the trip before racing up to the hit the lead at the 100m and fighting hard through the straight to only go down late in the piece to one other smart horse. That guy franked the form by stepping out and winning again last time out and Drift Net should prove tough to beat here.

THE DANGER - #5 - Favanna
Favanna resumed off of a 21 week spell to make his fourth career start and return to racing at Kyneton last time out two weeks ago where he set sixth and two wide in the run before really hitting the line hard in the final 200m where he kept coming and dived hard at the line but just missed out on the win in a blanket finish that saw him come third.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Nova Lights
Nova Lights can improve sharply into this race off the back of resuming at Geelong off of a very long 54 week spell and stepping out two weeks ago where he set right at the rear of the field and then easing wider in the run where he made good ground out wide in the straight despite not being a winning threat when finishing into fourth. He should be strong here now off of that run.

BEST BET - #1 - Ziryab (NEXT BEST)
Ziryab is the one to beat for me in what mostly looks like a two act affair and comes back to racing here fort start number seven and his first local run, having been brought over by Ciaron Maher after last racing in a strong affair in Leicester. Whilst I imagine he’s been brought here for longer distances than these he’s got a win and a placing at this trip in three runs and shapes up very well to win again.

THE DANGER - #2 - Brazen Kingdom
Brazen Kingdom shapes up well here racing for Peter Moody and I think he does have to be respected fourth up here and hard fit. He has had three runs back from a spell with the most recent being a 1400m race at Pakenham where he sped out to lead and was only found out late when just fading into third. He should be rock hard fit now and able to run out the trip well.

VALUE BET - #3 - Savatoff
Savatoff has been very good in two runs back from a spell and should be approaching his peak third up here for Danny O’Brien. He last stepped out over the Mile at Pakenham over the mile two weeks ago where he was forced out wide but chased hard late when peaking right through the line. I think that third up now, hard fit, he can peak a bit earlier in the run and be very hard to catch here.
