Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 12/01/24

Racing returns to Cranbourne again this Friday for a belter eight race card under the lights and we have $320,000 of prize money on offer across the card with some high level debutants at the races in VIC this Friday evening as well as some horses who are deeper into their preps and I am very keen on this card so let’s get stuck into things!

BEST BET - #5 - Edge Of Seventeen (BEST BET)
Edge Of Seventeen has had just the one career start for Phillip Stokes but rates very highly off the back of it and I think will shape up as a horse who is hard to beat here. He debuted over this trip at Mornington when coming from 3 deep off the pace to motor hard to the line and place very well in a strong debut. he now meets a smaller field, draws a good gate and with Spain aboard, better for the racing experience he should prove tough to get past.

THE DANGER - #1 - Belnera
Belnera is a horse that should be at just about peak for Mick Kent and will be dangerous here. He is third up coming into this and after recording a smart placing when first up from a long spell he then stepped out at Mornington last time and ran on very solidly despite being crowded for a run for most of the race. I think he rates highly coming here now and will be in the finish with the right run.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Lady Cederberg
Lady Cederberg has only had the three career starts for the Hayes boys but has looked very sharp in all of them and now comes back to racing after a 20 week break and I think can make an impression first up here. There’s been a fair few smart winners emerge from the races she has placed in and the stable is very good at improving their runners between preps so all thing considered I wouldn’t count her out.

I think that the price combined with the chances makes Docinthe one of the better bets on tomorrow’s card at Cranbourne and I am very keen to see how he goes for Mick Freedman who looks to have placed a bunch of runners with intent tomorrow. This guy resumed a couple weeks ago here over this trip when powering home from not the best of spots to beat all but the winner, who had the gun run, in an impressive effort and I think he shapes up very well now second up, ready to shed the maiden tag.

THE DANGER - #5 - Firestorm Boy 
The market is backing Firestorm Boy with a whole lot of confidence and whilst I don’t totally understand it given he hasn’t shown an awful lot in his seven career starts for the Eurell camp but in saying that you do kind of have to trust the ability of Eurell to sharply improve his runners between their campaigns and this guy comes into this with the gun draw, Moor aboard and ready to fire first up.

VALUE BET  - #11 - New York Lustre 
New York Lustre has only had the one career start for the Jusofovic camp but I think he is hard to ignore second up here. He debuted at Stony Creek over a 1100m run where he improved throughout the run to motor home and really got going late to place well there. Now comes into this well weighted, with Hefel aboard and only runs well for me.

Movader is resuming here for Maher and Eustace and looking for his third career win in twelve starts and I think relative to what he has contested in the past he has to be given a lot of thought here. He has been running with the likes of Beour Bay and actually beat Albanian I am last prep so I think resuming with Stockdale aboard and from a good draw he will be very prominent here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Masterful
It looks like the main threat to Movader is Masterful for the Jusofovic camp who has sent a bunch of runners with intent to this meeting tomorrow. This guy won very well over the 1400m here last time out when coming from four wide to hit the line with real purpose and claim the race inside the last 200m. He now shapes up hard fit and can make it two in a row here.

VALUE BET - #7 - Fuzz Buzz (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Fuzz Buzz really got going last time out and I think now that he has the runs on board he can produce a similar effort here for Luke Oliver. He last ran at Traralgon over the 1365m when being held up for a run until the 150m but when clear air came he absolutely bolted to the line to place second behind a smart horse in Estrapaz. Doesn’t have to improve too much off of that effort to feature here.
