Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 12/04/24

Racing returns to Cranbourne again this Friday for a great eight race card under the lights and we have $305,000 of prize money on offer across the card with some high level debutants at the races in VIC this Friday evening as well as some horses who are deeper into their preps and I am very keen on this card so let’s get stuck into things!

BEST BET - #9 - Capricorn Star (NEXT BEST) 
Capricorn Star looks like a solid bet to kick off the day’s proceedings at Cranbourne and comes off of three solid runs when debuting in the Future Stars at Pakenham and not enjoying the track conditions before just missing when racing outside the leader at Yarra Valley by a horse who had a much easier time than he did. He then was caught wide again against the tempo when racing at this track last time out, beaten half a length by Attain. She should be very hard to get past here with any luck.

THE DANGER - #7 - Stoneage Romeo
Stoneage Romeo has shown enough in his two starts to date for me to give him a look here. He first stepped out on debut at Sale when working home well into third place between runners before racing at Terang last time out where he hit the lead from three wide and fought hard to only be overpowered in the last 100m in what was a very brave effort. There were two subsequent winners out of that race and he looked the best horse there so the form’s been franked and I think he will be competitive here third up and hard fit.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Aspenado 
Aspenado can be forgiven for his first up miss when returning from a 20 week break at this course over the 1300m. He set fourth in the run and was helplessly held up in the straight when not able to build momentum and was subsequently eased out of the race. He has been placed in half of his career starts and hasn’t missed a placing in two second up runs, he should be far improved here.

BEST BET - #6 - Russian Bobshark (BEST BET) 
Russian Bobshark is a very astute looking first starter for Ciaron Maher that has been jumping out since February and has looked incredibly sharp in winning all three since then. He sat second in his most recent when trailing Imapagethree Girl in before gliding past her in the straight to win well. That was two weeks ago at Ballarat over the 900m so she’s clearly been wound up for start one and it’s early to say but I think she could be something special. 

THE DANGER - #10 - Sea Mist
Sea Mist is another horse who looks very sharp for the return after running fourth at Moe on debut last October and now comes back to racing for Mick Laurie off the back of two winning jumpouts to lead her back in. The most recent was at Mornington over the 900m a couple weeks ago was posted wide and still easily outrunning her rivals. Should be tuned up for this of the back of that run.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Think Rock 
Looks like Think Rock is really enjoying life under the Sandhu camp after coming across from K & K Keys and having his first start in 59 weeks when making his debut for the camp at Pakenham at the beginning of last month and having some issues before the run but was passed fit by the vet and was absolutely flying home in the straight to nearly win in a flash effort that saw him finish second. Mott jumps aboard now, draws well and with natural improvement he should be strong here.

BEST BET - #7 - The Yachtsman (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Yachtsman hit form again last start at this track and trip with a well timed run where he stalked the pace before Rose Hammond beautifully steered him to cut a corner at the right time and he came flying home to win very well. That was against a horse in Cours Vite who is second favourite in this race and he once again meets that guy better at the weights with Hammond retaining the ride and the claim he gets from her. I don’t see any reason why he can’t win again here. 

THE DANGER - #1 - Dodgy One  
Dodgy One rates highly with Thomas Stockdale jumping aboard after having excuses in each of his runs this time in for the Bedggood camp. Two back at Pakenham he was forced to do heaps of extra work over the mile when finishing midfield before making heaps of late ground at the Yarra Valley last time out where he was very strong through the line and now gets out to the distance he appears to be looking for and I think has to be respected here

VALUE BET - #6 - Cours Vite
Last one in, for me, is Cours Vite who has looked awfully close to another win recently and ran behind The Yachtsman at this course where he led them out and still gave a sight in the straight but just couldn’t real them in. He drops a couple kilos for this assignment and based off how he ran two back when he didn’t lead and had a bunny to chase at Bendigo I think that if he replicates a similar effort he will be very competitive here.
