Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 14/04/23

Friday nights under the lights at Cranbourne are back for another solid set of races to lead us into day three of the championships. There’s eight races on the card with a total of $320,000 worth of prize money and there’s four maiden races to kick it off followed by four Benchmark races with some prominent NSW stables and others putting forward what looks to be some super progressive types. The track is rated a soft 6 and the rail is in true position. Follow me as I outline the best spots on the card below.

Cranbourne R5 - IVAN'S PIES (BM64) (1300m)

Selections:
#3 - Designer Dreamer (BEST BET) - $3.50
#6 - Jet De Lune  - $5.50
#4 - Zoutellus  - $6.50
#2 - Squami - $3.40

BEST BET - #3 - Designer Dreamer  (BEST BET)
Designer Dreamer looks very well placed for Matt Brown to go over here again after winning fresh here and not having much luck since. However, when he raced at Pakenham two weeks ago he was wide without cover all run and it told late when he tired and faded. He’ll retain fitness off that, maps to sit just behind the speed in a small field and should have a strong kick for them late. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #6 - Jet De Lune

Jet De Lune looks very well placed in this field second up. The Matt Laurie trained runner resumed a couple weeks back at Pakenham under the lights from a long half year spell and set two wide before steadily fading in the straight. He generally needs the run but has lengths on these at his best, maps to find the front softly from barrier seven and historically makes strong improvements second up. Big danger.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Zoutellus
Zoutellus looks well suited dropping back in distance here after a short nine week let up from the races. He failed to make an impression at Colac last time out over the 2000m where he just tried to hard before falling a couple couple lengths short of them. Before then he was very good, picking up a win at Stony Creek that was so soft, he barely had to put down any effort. He then fell just short second up to miss by a head at 2000m. Free running horse that can find the front and give them too much to catch on his day.

Cranbourne R6 - FORD #NEXTGENRANGER (BM70) (1000m)

Selections:
#4 - Fasuto  (NEXT BEST) - $3.20
#8 - River Ribble  - $2.70
#3 - The Last Napoleon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)  - $11.00
#2 - Okay To Pay - $9.50

BEST BET - #4 - Fasuto
I do think Fasuto is very well suited to make it back to back wins here after scoring impressively at this track and trip two weeks back when setting four deep in the run, improving throughout the run before just drawing clear of them inside the last fifty meters. He looked to really relish the soft track that day and is hard fit now, can settle wherever they decide from the wide gate as he looks quite dynamic in run style and should have something on these late again racing on the ground he wants.

THE DANGER - #8 - River Ribble
The A & S Freedman trained River Ribble looks strong in this field second up off a short ten week let up from the races. He returned at Bendigo when just over an odds on favourite and was as honest as ever in defeat when just going down second to a progressive looking horse in Squad. has had just under a month between runs to prepare for this and the stable is flying. Watch closely.

VALUE BET  - #3 - The Last Napoleon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Last Napoleon looked very good just over a month ago at the bool over the 1200m when coming from last and ever so smartly weaving through runners, powering home into third place to miss by under a length in what looks to be an equally strong field to this. Albeit in lower grade, he should be hard fit and maps to find a decent spot off a genuine tempo. I think if the first two don’t fire for whatever reason he will be running on strongly late and can take this out.

Cranbourne R7 - ROSEMONT STUD HANDICAP (C1) (1600m)

Selections:
#2 - Choquant (NEXT BEST)  - $2.80
#7 - Muppet - $7.00
#5 - Skinny Dip  - $7.50
#3 - Kentahten - $7.00

BEST BET - #2 - Choquant (NEXT BEST)
Choquant Looks very well placed here for Mike Kent. Billy Egan jumps aboard after a few runs in Metro grade, the first of which at Sandown where he chased hard all start behind the smart Fretta who has gone on to win more races since. He then picked up a win here over this distance before going to The Valley where he chased hard early to find the lead and kept fighting to the line but faded steadily to end up fourth. He’s had about a two month break from the races, finds the rail here which is perfect for his run style.

THE DANGER - #7 - Muppet

Muppet has only had the two starts at the races but looks like a very progressive horse after moving out to this distance second up at Donald where he emerged from four lengths deep in the run to take the lead at just outside of the last 100m mark and pulling away from the field to score well. He gets a huge jockey upgrade to Zac Spain now and it looks as if it shouldn’t matter too much where he settles in the run. Smart horse and I am keen to see how he shows up third up here on race day.

VALUE BET - #5 - Skinny Dip
Skinny Dip showed a bit of talent in the early part of this prep, winning at The Valley over the 1514m before going out to the 1600m on that course and just falling short by a head. He then dropped back to Provincial grade and really hasn’t shown too much since. He gets Stackhouse on, draws the inside which suits his run style and I think they can hit back hard now.

Best Promotions for Cranbourne Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
