BEST BET - #9 - The Sisters
This looks like a very good spot for The Sisters to pick up her first win of this campaign third up here. The Pat Carey seven-year-old placed in this grade over the 1000m fresh at Mornington and then came to this track in the mud a couple weeks back where she had to overcome the widest gate and couldn’t really work into it on the bogged down track but was far from disgraced, finishing over the top of half the field from far back. I think back onto the top of the ground and from gate two should see her have every chance now third up.
THE DANGER - #3 - Miss Icelandic
Miss Icelandic was awesome on debut at Pakenham and can go on with it now. I was on her then back in late March and she was very brave, living up to the big price tag when she raced two wide and then motored up to find the lead at the 200m, timing her run a bit early but having enough to keep them at bay when tiring late to score then. She has plenty of speed to cross and find the front early and if she does so without exhausting too much effort, she will have plenty for them. Keen to see how she goes on with it second up now after a short break.
VALUE BET - #2 - Wok Star (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Wok Star is a promising three-year-old for the Busuttin/Young stable who has been patiently eased along in a lengthy prep and it has been working out with two wins and a bunch of placings in eleven runs this campaign. One of those wins came two back at Kyneton over the 1200m where she took over at the 400m and never looked like losing. She then came to this track over the 1000m last time out in the mud but didn’t seem to handle the going, just battling along in the run to end up midfield but not being disgraced. Back on top of the ground and better for the run here prior, she is a top chance and I think definitely over the odds, good value play.
