Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 26/04/24

Racing returns to Cranbourne again this Friday for a great eight race card under the lights and we have $320,000 of prize money on offer across the card with some high level debutants at the races in VIC this Friday evening as well as some horses who are deeper into their preps and I am very keen on this card so let’s get stuck into things!

BEST BET - #10 - Beurre Rouge (NEXT BEST)
Beurre Rouge has the runs on board and I think that should carry him quite far over a lot of these who are either making their debuts to the races or coming back from breaks, including the favourite. He’s had two runs to kick the career off for Ciaron Maher and showed good improvement last time out to chase hard at Sandown from a nothing spot and finish just behind the placegetters. He should get a bit more luck from the good gate here and will be sharp third up. Go well.

THE DANGER - #4 - Night People
Night People is coming back from a break here the Busuttin and Young camp and she’s shown plenty in her four career starts for the camp to be given respect here, despite being a bit too short for mine. She’s placed in three of her four runs with the latest being at the end of December in quite a strong race here. There’s been five winners combined out of the three races that she placed in and I think she will be strong resuming here under Newitt.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Edwards
Edwards is a first starter for Peter Moody and from the whispers and jump outs I think that he has to be given a look here at big odds. The stable has been flying with their first starters / juveniles this season and this guy comes off the back of three sharp jump outs, showing more than enough in each to give him a look. He gets Egan aboard for the debut and will be strong here.

BEST BET - #4 - Sergeant Mavers (BEST BET)
Interesting field here with a bunch of these being multiple start maidens but I think that it makes this a great betting spot for Sergeant Mavers. He comes here for his seventh career start and fourth overall since coming to Joseph Waldron. The last two runs have been very impressive at Pakenham where he got no luck but ran home hard into the placings before stepping out at Bairnsdale last time where he really should have won but was nailed late by a smart horse. He’s hard fit, Stockdale’s been with him all prep and retains the ride, should be strong here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Affluential
Affluential came back from a three week break after a close placing at this trip at Pakenham to break maiden at start number 14 a couple weeks ago at Pakenham when having his first jumps race and looking brilliant in doing so. It’s interesting to see him placed back on the flat course again and back in trip but he’s got that winning feeling and went awfully close two back over this trip so respecting him here. 

VALUE BET  - #8 - Topspin
I think that Topspin is going a lot better than it reads at face value for Ciaron Maher and he’s only going to be stronger coming here for his third career start for the stable. His two runs to kick the career off have been rock solid, coming from the rear of the field to run home hard and finish just behind the placegetters in each. Based on those runs, I think getting out to the 2500m now will only be a plus for him.

BEST BET - #13 - Shooting For Stars (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Shooting For Stars comes here as an emergency but it looks like the Dale camp are going to race her here and if she handles the big weight she’s going to be awfully tough to beat here. She’s a good horse with five wins and three placings in her 19 starts and I think that she was just so unlucky last time out at Albury that it was a complete forgive. The win prior and start prior to that were both excellent and she can hit back hard here at a price.

THE DANGER - #6 - Soju
Soju is going to be tough to get past once again for Simon Zahra, coming here off of a win at this course and trip a couple weeks ago when racing under Gaudray in a very similar race to this. I think that she does her best work when afforded little breaks which she sees that kind of set up again and all things considered she will be tough to get past here, go well.

VALUE BET - #2 - Rubicon Crossing 
Mick Walker brings Rubicon Crossing here for his second start back from a 13 week break and I think he gets a very good set up here. He resumed quite sharply over this track and trip a couple weeks ago when doing his best work late, being strong through the line to finish fourth in a solid field. Lots of improvement to come second up, stable’s flying and I think he only runs well with a claimer aboard here.
