Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 27/01/23

Friday nights at Cranbourne continue into the end of the month and there are some nice types going around. I have gone through the eight race card and picked out some of my favourite spots of the day. Friday’s racing at Cranbourne is mostly over sprint distances and three staying races for a total of $320,000 prize. The track has been rated a good 4 and I expect it to remain within this range.

BEST BET - #1 - Alaskan Storm - (BEST BET)
Alaskan Storm showed something last time out as the market suspected when a $3.00 favourite in the market, going strongly after sitting and leading on the rail at Mornington. She was just outgunned late there but looks to improve into this out to 1600m from that 1500m run. Mott retains the ride and I think they can pick up the early win.

THE DANGER - #11 - Hibernia Queen 
Hibernia Queen raced on the same day as Alaskan Storm with Thornton on and looked good that day after sitting wide and looming in the top of the straight she just couldn’t finish it off there. Natural improvement and third up out to 1600m, we will see if the engine is genuine.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Harlem Nic (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Harlem Nic was never really in the race last time out at Benalla and while he had excuses there he was also disappointing on the back of the previous run. Two back, at Wangaratta over the 1600m he came on strong after winding up in the straight and ran down hard late but just found one better placing second. He gets in light but draws out wide, interested to see what happens.

BEST BET - #9 - Vienna Vixen (BEST BET) 
Vienna Vixen Made her debut at the races at Stawell over the 1100m when a $7.00 chance in the market, racing strongly and looking like a talented horse which would not surprise with the stable. The time was petty good as well and out to 1200m on the bigger track now both look good, Ethan Brown jumps aboard and I think with some luck she wins this.

THE DANGER - #4 - Squami
Squami Looked good after a short let up from the races, placing second at her debut at this track second up over the 1300m, showing a strong kick and fighting hard to just go down late. She ran good splits for the day there, Thornton retains the ride and I think she has a good chance to make it two wins in three runs.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Red Phantom 
Red Phantom is first up here off a 16 week spell and was a 1st up winner at Wolverhampton last prep. She raced two back at Sandown over the 1500m and that run caught my eye when she fought hard and was just beaten inside the last 50 metres there. She looks like she has a good chance to fire first up over the 1200m here.

BEST BET - #2 - Queen Adele (NEXT BEST) 
Queen Adele should have finished much closer last time out but was crowded and held up throughout at Mornington over the 1500m in slightly stronger company than this. Before then the last two runs she was in the placings and has been around the mark all prep. Melham retains the ride and she maps to sit just off a decent tempo, keen to see what she can produce late.

THE DANGER - #1 - Roma's Wish
Roma’s wish has been progressing nicely this prep and comes into this hard fit third up and goes out the 1600m which is the natural change, both positives. She led from a soft draw last time out at Pakenham over the 1400m and was nabbed inside the last 100m there but still looks to be improving. She draws well and meets a reasonably soft field, I think she can win.

VALUE BET - #4 - Nakedness
Nakedness is a three year old who has had a flying start to her career after coming second on debut at Yarra Valley but found one better after over-racing a bit. Two of those horses have won since but Nakedness himself went on to a Mornington 1500m and picked up the win there after racing on the speed and drawing clear of them at the 150m. She had the gun run last time out and faces a few more challenges here but is in with a shot.

It’s been a bit tricky to find really confident bets for the card and it has been useful to take advantage of multi place betting, as such I have combined my favourite three runners from the card all to place so we will get paid out if they run anywhere in the top three, this is a great way to retain value even while de risking.
