Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 28/04/23

Friday nights under the lights at Cranbourne continue with an eight raced card, six sprints and two staying races on the card, with four maiden races to kick off the card and a bunch of Benchmark races to follow it should make for an exciting day of racing. The track is rated a good 4 and there’s $320,000 available on all races across the card, follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the race card at Cranbourne!

BEST BET - #8 - Villainesque (BEST BET) 
Villainesque looks set to peak third up and brings the strongest figures here. He sat on the speed and boxed on well to go down narrowly when third over this track and trip on April 14. He’s been third in both of his two starts back from a spell this campaign and gets Beau Mertens on now and should have a bit on these hard fit now.

THE DANGER - #7 - Story Of Stella
Story Of Stella is a lightly raced three year old who comes into this second up from a spell and has placed in two of her four career starts. She looked very good when placing second at Mornington over this distance when resuming, and whilst the winner was ever impressive, putting almost two lengths on her late, she was still very good relative to the field and that was her first effort off a reasonable break. Should improve sharply now.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Kollantai 
Most recently Kollantai came fourth in a big field at Kilmore two weeks ago over the 1200m on a bog track when 1.5 lengths behind Milhous who looks to be quite a progressive horse. Before then she powerd home nicely to the line to come from the back of the field to end up fifth. She should be hard fit now coming into this and can settle closer in the run now, will be prominent late.

BEST BET - #9 - Maliepo (NEXT BEST)
Maliepo has a fitness edge over a lot of these in the field and comes off a much improved run over this distance at Mornington three weeks ago when she raced from a wide gate but managed to cross and sit on the speed, just fading late into third. She gets the blinkers on now, is well weighted and draws a lot better. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #11 - Hezabusybee
Hezabusybee looks set to make it a winning debut for Patrick Payne off the back of some sharp trials. He’s a well bred horse by Foxwedge that has had some issues and taken his time to get to the races but now looks to be moving very well recently and should sit back from the wide gate and be ready to launch late. Market’s pricing on him has to be respected.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Boom Boom Betty
Boom Boom Betty has had just the two career starts to date but looks to be coming along very nicely for Jim Cerchi. On debut she defied the odds when sitting up on the speed and just boxing along to end up third of nine at this distance. She then seemed to have a few issues second up at Ararat over the 1100m. She should be a lot better coming into this now third up and I think she can speck at odds.

BEST BET - #5 - Jezoulenko
Jezoulenko resumes here after a break of eleven weeks and has won fresh previously. She was racing in some better races than this towards the end of her last campaign. When she resumed last time out in this grade over the 955m at the valley she came from way back in the run to power home into second, just missing by half a length. She looks primed for her return now.

THE DANGER - #4 - Smokin' Holly 
Smokin’ Holly is another who races best with fresh legs and has won first up before. She comes into this off a six month break when finished fifth of 10 last time out in this grade over this distance at Sale. Previously first up she raced here and scored dominantly over this distance by 1.75 lengths on a slow going track. She gets in well at the weights, has trialled nicely and is a key threat in this field.

VALUE BET - #3 - Super Thief (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I really like the way that Super Thief finished off her last run and think she is being somewhat overlooked by the market in this field. Last time out she came on strongly from last on the turn to motor home into fourth in stronger company than this over this distance. She made big improvements off her first up run there and I think she has quite a lot of upside third up now, should be hard fit, can settle closer in the run. The stable is flying and I think she is a top chance to win now.

Cranbourne can be a challenging track to craft a successful multi bet, so I'm opting to stick to a specific strategy for this race day.
