Friday Racing Tips - Cranbourne Racecourse 31/03/23

Friday nights under the lights at Cranbourne return after a couple weeks away and we have a sick little card for your Friday night entertainment. There’s eight races on the card for a total of $320,000 prize money and the first half of the card sees the maidens and there are some prominent NSW stables putting forward runners and then the next half of the card are BM64 races over sprint to mid distance. The track is rated a soft 6 and the rail is in true position.

Cranbourne R1 - SILKS CRANBOURNE MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)

Selections:
#6 - Free Willed (BEST BET) - $3.40
#2 - Penman - $3.00
#3 - The Extreme Cat - $6.00
#1 - Treotto - $2.90

BEST BET - #6 - Free Willed (BEST BET)
Free Willed is a good looking prospect for Chris Alderson who debuted at Pakenham under the lights three weeks back and it was a mighty debut as he sat on the speed and had a great kick to chase the smart Clock Strikes but couldn’t get one over on him to place second there. He clocked in a speedy 34.56 last 600m there and will be fitter now, gets the gun draw and will give them a sight to catch.

THE DANGER - #2 - Penman

Penman resumes tomorrow for the A & S Freedman camp and looks like a big threat in this field. He’s had just the two runs at the races and hasn’t been seen for 19 weeks but both of his runs have been full of merit when placing a close second on debut at this track and trip before going to Moe and doing the same. He’s been gelded now and the stable is flying. He can resume as a winner.

VALUE BET  - #3 - The Extreme Cat
You’d have to think coming from the prominent Maher and Eustace camp that they have The Extreme Cat well prepared for his return to racing and Ben Allen gets the booking so there is intent. He’s had just the one run at Bairnsdale over this distance as favourite but he sat two wide all run there and couldn’t keep fighting to go down fourth in that field. He should jump on the bunny and be right up there with Free Willed, just not sure he is better than him.

Cranbourne R5 - PROCON DEVELOPMENTS (BM64) (1600m)

Selections:
#2 - Let Fly (NEXT BEST) - $3.40
#3 - Let'sbefrankbaby - $2.35
#4 - Hanmer Springs - $10.00
#6 - Miss Tarzy - $7.00

BEST BET - #2 - Let Fly (NEXT BEST)
Let Fly has returned to the races in absolutely super order. She scored with plenty in hand first up at Tab Werribee where he took the lead at the top of the straight and charged hard to score dominantly. He then went to Benalla over the same distance where he did it tough out wide but was still too smart to shift in on the turn and hit the lead at the 100m and keep them at bay. He should only be improving and getting fitter with each of those and doesn’t take on too much extra weight here. I think he can complete the hat trick.

THE DANGER - #3 - Let'sbefrankbaby
Let'sbefrankbaby is resuming tomorrow from a near half year break and he’s taking a huge step down in competition here and looks like the main threat in this field. He raced mostly at Caulfield and Flemington in his last prep, racing in the G3 Ethereal Stakes when fourth of thirteen before going onto the G2 Wakeful Stakes, and finally the G1 Kennedy Oaks where he was far from disgraced, covering a few runners to come sixth when motoring home late. Not sure how he resumes but if it’s anything like some of those runs he will beat these and make it look easy.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Hanmer Springs
Hanmer Springs has been screaming to pick up another win this campaign after having already won two from eleven and placing third in her last three runs. Those runs have all been full of merit and she does seem like a genuine horse but the times haven’t been all to flash and I’m not sure if she has what it takes to beat these but she can go close.

Cranbourne R7 - DE BORTOLI WINES HANDICAP (0-64) (1200m)

Selections:
#7 - Chaseton - $7.50
#4 - Rakomelo - $5.00
#5 - Big Watch (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.50
#9 - Pretty Tavi - $3.70

BEST BET - #7 - Chaseton
Chaseton looks a very talented horse for Peter Moody that resumed three weeks ago at Echuca over the 1200m in a BM64 on the Heavy going and he just faded in the last 150m to finish back in the field. He did have a tough run there and generally needs that first run, should improve sharply now and getting onto soft ground as opposed to a bog track should be a big plus as well.

THE DANGER - #4 - Rakomelo
James Cummings has put forward Rakomelo for this race and always has to be thoroughly respected on the ⅔ year olds as he’s been soaring this season. She handles the sting out of the ground with a proven first up win in the heavy at Kembla and most recently raced at Cranbourne when third of six and showing heart, chasing hard all start. He maps to get a nice run behind the speed and should be hitting them hard on the turn.

VALUE BET - #5 - Big Watch (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Michael Moronoey trained Big Watch comes into this third up chasing a double after scoring at Kilmore over this distance three weeks ago when he shifted in from two wide at the turn and jetted away. He looks to be hard fit third up now, sticks at the distance and maps to cross early and sit just behind a genuine tempo and with Mott on I trust they can find a spot to shoot through late. Big danger, don’t overlook.

Jockey Of The Day – Daniel Moor

Daniel Moor has been absolutely flying of late, winning Stakes and listed races in all the Major States Autumn carnival’s so far. I think he gets a stack of rides for tomorrow at Cranbourne and is a top chance to take out the TAB jockey challenge.

Multi Tips For Cranbourne Racecourse

Cranbourne can be a challenging track to craft a successful multi bet, so I'm opting to stick to a specific strategy for this race day. I've identified those horses up near the speed (in the sprints/mid distance) as the most promising contenders at Cranbourne. I’m hoping this increases cashing the multi bet so be sure to follow me below for a fun bet to track over the course of the action!

Best Promotions for Cranbourne Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
