Friday Racing Tips - Dubbo Racecourse 02/06/23

Friday’s racing kicks on at Dubbo with a bunch of competitive looking races on the horizon for us with some of the more prominent regional NSW stables putting forward progressive looking types. There are eight races on the program, with three maidens and the rest to be contested in mixed grades. The track is rated a good 4, the weather looks fine and I think we are on for an exciting day of racing at Dubbo! Follow me below as I outline my best bets on the card.

BEST BET - #1 - Rylan's Pick
Interesting little race to open us up and I think there are a couple key chances but am pretty keen on the prospects of Rylan’s Pick who has been racing exceptionally and does get up in the weights now after picking up two wins in his last three runs but gets an ever important claim from the jockey which sees him racing in this with about 60kg on his back, heavy, but not unmanageable. Last time out he wont the NYNGAN Cup at the end of April and has been given some time to come back to the races now, draws to find the front / be forward without much effort and I think he will very hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #4 - Impact Star
Impact Star looks like a very good thing going around for Damien Lane who rates very highly coming into this. He’s only two weeks between runs and overall comes into this fourth into his prep and is racing back from metro track’s in the same grade as this but stronger company. He should be hard fit now, maps to get a nice spot on the speed and meets the softest field he has in some time. 

VALUE BET  - #6 - Jet Pack (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Jet Pack is a very interesting runner for Cameron Crockett who was going insanely well in his first preparation for Crockett in the Spring of last year when picking up two strong consecutive wins and a close second placing from five runs. He resumed off of an 18 week spell about a month ago at Muswellbrook and he just needed the run there when one paced. Historically, he improves sharply with that first up run and might need a few more to get going, but if he is right for this, he should find the front easily and be hard to run down.

BEST BET - #1 - Devilicious (BEST BET)
Devilicious is a very good looking prospect for Cameron Crockett who made his resumption run two weeks ago at Tamworth after a break of 17 weeks and off the back of some very nice trials at Newcastle and Musswellbrook and he was awesome there, setting two wide and on the speed in the run and fighting hard to hold second place but couldn’t get one over on the winner then. He will surely improve a bit off the back of that but doesn’t need to improve too sharply to prove too much for these. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #4 - Patron Of Power
I think that Patron Of Power presents as the only real threat to Devilicious in this field. He had been trialling up for awhile, changing stables from Mick Freedman to Jack Bruce and then to Kieren Hazelton at the beginning of last month, all before making his debut but looking very good in the trials. He then finally made his debut at Moree two weeks ago and didn’t jump well but worked hard through the run to be just behind the leaders before coming off heels and trying hard in the straight but the early work told and he only managed to get into third. I think he has massive upside off the back of that and will make this interesting.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Venatic 
Venatic looks like a very progressive horse for Chris Lundholm who gets into this with almost no weight on his back after the claim from Simpson. He has been running very well, placing closely in three from four of his runs since coming to Lundholm earlier this year. He has come close second placings in both of his last two runs and looks like he is screaming for a win. He gets back on top of the ground here after both those runs being in the wet and I think he will look very good and has fitness on all these.

BEST BET - #8 - Beau Factor (NEXT BEST)
I don’t see any reason why Beau Factor can’t go one better second up now for Brett Robb. The five-year-old resumed from a long 48 week spell at Dubbo two weeks back when she lobbed forward, sat on the speed and chased hard to grab second there. I think she will be fitter, Gallagher retains the ride and from barrier five they should be able to lob straight forward and be in the lead / first two without too much effort and be hard to run down.

THE DANGER - #2 - Billabong Isle
Billabong Isle surely is close to a win for Alison Smith. The four year old has come ever so close in all of his last three runs, two of them being seconds at this track over the 1010m on soft going and both runs have been full of merit where he has either got tough wide runs or has been trapped wide and still overcome the lack of favours to finish very very close. I think with even the slightest luck in running this time round, he will be very prominent and can take this out to make it four wins from twelve starts.

VALUE BET - #7 - Clifton Springs 
Clifton Springs looks like a very progressive type for Brett Cavanough who is also screaming for a win after running very well in his last two and having made sharp improvements in both from the rest of the campaign. He led at Gunnedah two back and looked home but was just run down late to a smart type, then going on to race at Moree last time out where he trailed the speed and shifted out wide on the straight and was bumped around late in his run and unlucky to not win there when protesting unsuccessfully. He will be sure to put on a performance again now hard fit and in form.
