Friday Racing Tips - Echuca Racecourse 28/07/23

Victorian racing sees a big Friday card come to Echuca racecourse with a total purse of $338k on the card that sees nine races with four maiden’s to kick us off followed by mixed grade (BM58 / BM64) and we have some of the top VIC stables putting forward runners who I think can be onto big spring preps and as such have tried to pick up on the confidence of stables based on their historical patterns of placing these runners and have found some nice betting spots on the card. Follow me below as I outline the day at Echuca!

Echuca R1 - Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival 2024 Mdn (1300m)

Selections:
#5 - Struck Gold (BEST BET)  - $2.10
#3 - It'sbruce - $7.50
#8 - Favourite Child - $9.50
#2 - Grey Ghost - $13.00

BEST BET - #5 - Struck Gold (BEST BET)
Always a bit scary to be on an odds on favourite in a field where so many are lightly raced / making their debut but I do think that the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Struck Gold is going to be a high class animal for the stable off the back of a debut in the Heavy at Avondale where he ran on too well to ignore into third place and isn’t totally suited on that ground. He’s had a tick over trial to lead him back into this and he went like an absolute jet in it. He doesn’t have to find much to win this.

THE DANGER - #3 - It'sbruce
Mick Freedman has been flying this season with his juveniles / lightly raced horses and It'sbruce looks like no exception and due to the short quote on Struck Gold presents as a very real value bet opportunity. He’s only had the two runs so far in his career, the last of which saw him race at Terang where he wound up in the run and let down powerfully in the straight to come from near last and lose in a bob of the heads to go down second there. He now comes back from a twenty one week spell from that effort and Freedman will have him ready to go.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Favourite Child
Favourite Child is a Maher and Eustace debutant who has to be respected coming from the stable alone. He’s well bred by Dundeel and whilst he hasn’t had any public trials the Jumpout work has been very nice around him and the whispers are all positive. The booking of Meech shows intent and I think the tactics will likely be to give a sight out front. Wouldn’t surprise if he won.

Echuca R5 - Brewery Fresh Carlton Draught (Bm58) (1200m)

Selections:
#8 - Miss Jenni Lynn (NEXT BEST) - $4.00
#10 - Gemstar - $3.50
#1 - Bon Shadow - $8.00
#5 - Eaglesaurus - $8.00

BEST BET - #8 - Miss Jenni Lynn (NEXT BEST)
I have always been a fan of the Maher and Eustace trained Miss Jenni Lynn who looks to get every chance in this field and whilst she is a talented horse she likes to hurt her own chances so seeing the winkers come on for this assignment makes me feel a lot better about backing her as I think they will sharpen her up a bit. She really does her best work with her toe in the ground and hasn’t put in a bad performance in her three career starts so far, so if the track gets downgraded throughout the day or it’s looking on the softer side then I would definitely be betting her, hopefully the odds haven’t been crunched by then.

THE DANGER - #10 - Gemstar
Gemsstar looks like she is shaping up to be a nice horse for Danny O’Brien and will get her chance in this field. She’s had four runs this time in and has picked up a win and two close placings from those runs and looks to be holding form very well. Her last run came at Geelong where she sat just off the speed and chased hard in the straight to place third, beaten less than a length. I think hard fit, with Mott on and back a bit in depth she goes well here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Bon Shadow
Bon Shadow has to carry a stack of weight for this assignment but he looks to have a bit of class about him that I think some of this field is lacking. He’s been up awhile, with the stable generally giving him a month but sometimes up to two months between runs and he seems to relish the little breaks, having not been out of the placings in his last five runs, with a bunch of those being close second’s where he’s just got unlucky. He rates very highly against these and think he only runs well here.

Echuca R7 - Caledonian Hotel Echuca (Bm64) (1400m)

Selections:
#5 - El Cordobes - $4.80
#9 - Outlaw Ned - $8.00
#3 - Onslaught (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $9.50
#10 - Smullen - $6.00

BEST BET - #5 - El Cordobes
El Cordobes presents race fitter and better for the experience off the back of a long 21 week spell when he resumed at this racecourse over the same distance and the market said he needed the run and he did. He stayed inside just off the speed there and plugged along. He historically improves sharply second up and Danny O’Brien hasn’t been putting in any bad efforts in training thus far, have to roll with the momentum and I think that El Cordobes will show up sharp here. Watch how he looks in the yard before laying money down though.

THE DANGER - #9 - Outlaw Ned
Outlaw Ned is a proven second up winner and looks to have returned to racing in great order for the Gaskin camp. He resumed off of a massive thirty seven week spell at this track and trip last time out where he set 9th and three wide from the bad gate and found his feet to bridge the gap in the last 200m, powering home into third. He’s a proven second up winner and you would think he has massive upside to come still second up off a huge spell. Very keen on his chances here.

VALUE BET - #3 - Onslaught (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Onslaught is a very good horse for the Mathrick stable that seems to have hit a hot patch of form and last time out he beat the likes of the aforementioned Outlaw Ned. The run came just under two weeks ago where he set third and three wide with no cover and looked to be gone but just kept grinding away and it paid off when he eventually found the front and won in very impressive fashion. He will be fitter for that run and now should get a more economical run in transit which should see him be very strong.

Jockey Of The Day – James Orman

If you’ve been following me for a bit you know how much love I have for Jimmy Orman who gets a nice booking of rides for tomorrow’s meeting and I think we should see him go over on at least one of them. Multi Tips For Echuca Racecourse

I have applied a similar strategy for my multi at Echuca to that of my midweek Multi at Warwick farm as I have tipped a lot in the earlier races I think there are a few standout types in these lower grade races who have been carefully placed by their stables for ratings purposes and who look to be moving onto Metro grade racing in the future. With a bit of luck I think we should be in the money here early on, follow me below for a fun bet to track over race day!

Best Promotions for Echuca Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
