BEST BET - #8 - Miss Jenni Lynn (NEXT BEST)
I have always been a fan of the Maher and Eustace trained Miss Jenni Lynn who looks to get every chance in this field and whilst she is a talented horse she likes to hurt her own chances so seeing the winkers come on for this assignment makes me feel a lot better about backing her as I think they will sharpen her up a bit. She really does her best work with her toe in the ground and hasn’t put in a bad performance in her three career starts so far, so if the track gets downgraded throughout the day or it’s looking on the softer side then I would definitely be betting her, hopefully the odds haven’t been crunched by then.
THE DANGER - #10 - Gemstar
Gemsstar looks like she is shaping up to be a nice horse for Danny O’Brien and will get her chance in this field. She’s had four runs this time in and has picked up a win and two close placings from those runs and looks to be holding form very well. Her last run came at Geelong where she sat just off the speed and chased hard in the straight to place third, beaten less than a length. I think hard fit, with Mott on and back a bit in depth she goes well here.
VALUE BET - #1 - Bon Shadow
Bon Shadow has to carry a stack of weight for this assignment but he looks to have a bit of class about him that I think some of this field is lacking. He’s been up awhile, with the stable generally giving him a month but sometimes up to two months between runs and he seems to relish the little breaks, having not been out of the placings in his last five runs, with a bunch of those being close second’s where he’s just got unlucky. He rates very highly against these and think he only runs well here.
