Friday Racing Tips - Geelong Racecourse 07/04/23

Good Friday racing heads to Geelong for the Country Discovery Day and it looks to be a very good day of racing in Victoria. The highlight of the day is the BET365 THE COUNTRY DISCOVERY for a share of $500,000, it will be run over the 1100m under Handicap penalties. There are a bunch of other strong races to support it and it should make for a great card. Follow me below as I outline my best bets!

BEST BET - #4 - Karalee Rocks (NEXT BEST) 
Karalee Rocks is a Lindsey Smith trained mare who had a very good campaign in Western Australia last year when winning her first and second up runs at Ascot and only narrowly going down to place in her third run before a spell. She looked to absolutely fly recently in a Mildura trial where she scored nicely and she gets a good map, good jockey and I think that she can win this. Only query is if they have put her forward to race here today as prep for the Bool.

THE DANGER - #13 - Theycallmebruce 
Theycallmebruce looks like the main threat in this race, coming into this second up for Danny O’Brien after a very strong win fresh over this track and trip where she sat off the speed before coming on super strongly as she went through the gears to score a couple weeks back. She meets some real competition now but she definitely does look up to the task and I think it will be close between her and Karalee Rocks.

VALUE BET  - #5 - The Javelin
The Javelin is the likely leader in this race and winning form is good form, which is what he brings to the table here. He’s scored in both of his last two, with both runs at the Yarra Valley. Naturally, the competition hasn’t been all that flash that he has beat off with both runs at BM58 grade but he does look up to BM64 grade and he has a very nice racing style. I think he will make his own luck and should go well.

BEST BET - #3 - Empressive Enuff (BEST BET)
Empressive Enuff has come back to the races in very good steed from what it looks like. he led them at the Bool when fresh in a pretty solid race and he just went down late to come second to Hooah havana and then went on to Bairnsdale where he jumped, led and kicked never giving anything else a chance to get into it, winning by more than five lengths that day. She draws super wide here but has the speed to cross and the run style to find a handy position and she will be hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #4 - Messignadi 
Messignadi is a good looking prospect for the Coffey Stable who is having her second run back to the races after a four month break when she went back to the paddock a winner. She resumed at Ballarat last week in a BM64 and was far from disgraced there when coming second to Sir Juggernaut and carrying 61kg. She will be fitter now, drops in weight, gets a soft draw and whilst she might want one more run she’s a proven winner who should look good for a long way in this.

VALUE BET  - #10 - No New Tricks
No New Tricks is getting up in age but he’s been in outstanding form this prep, coming from right at the back at Sandown two runs back to chase hard and peaking just a bit too late in the run. He then went onto Bairnsdale and stayed at the 1200m when again getting too far back and whilst the kick was strong he was never a threat. He has clocked some very good late splits and there’s a few bit of speed on in this race so he should have the run to suit.

BEST BET - #4 - In Tha Boat
In Tha Boat is having his second run back after resuming from a five month spell. He resumed at Moonee Valley in the LR Abell Stakes race mid March over 1200m when she finished second of eleven, impressively coming on strong to end up a neck behind She’s All Class. Previously when she was second up she finished well back in the field but that was in G2 company next to the likes of Paulele. I think she has come back to the races in very good order and can go one better now second up.

THE DANGER - #11 - It’sourtime (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
It’sourtime is make or break today. The market thought he was right to go when he resumed on the Flemington straight and to be honest he did look super solid there but there was no way he was beating the in-form / fitter Sessions Road who just raced a close second in a harder race the other day. His return was good enough for him to pose a threat here second up.

VALUE BET - #9 - Bermadez
Bermadez is a costly one to follow but he is very very good when he shows up. He mostly shows up when fresh and so I think he is in with a chance at big odds here. Four of his six wins have come when fresh. His recent jumpout wasn’t anything spectacular but he will be strong late and there looks like a genuine tempo. I guess the price reflects the query of how he will return to racing.
