Friday Racing Tips - Geelong Racecourse 12/04/24

Racing returns to Geelong this Friday for a bumper eight race meeting in Victoria and we see some very smart looking horses stepping out for our premiere Victorian stables. I have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots in this article so follow me below as I outline the day’s racing at Geelong!

BEST BET - #7 - Signor Bill (BEST BET) 
Signor Bill looks like a very good opening bet for the Geelong race card tomorrow and I think Patrick Payne will have this guy humming for his second career start. He was scratched from today’s races at Pakenham and saved for this which signals intent from the stable and comes off of a 1300m debut at Sandown Lakeside where he ran home very strongly into second in a small field. Billy Egan retains the ride and I think the horse will be sharp here. 

THE DANGER - #3 - Rock Pop
Market is backing Rock Pop with a tonne of confidence for the McEvoy’s and I can see why. He debuted at Ballarat at the end of last month under Coffey where he was ridden with plenty of confidence and fought on well late in a race where the winner dominated but he put a space on the rest of the field when placing second. Coffey sticks and he should retain a stack of benefit off of that run so go well here.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Shaalute
Shaalute had genuine excuses when kicking off his career with the first two runs before stepping out at Cranbourne just under two weeks ago third up in a very small but strong field where he looked the winner a long way and was only nailed on the line by another sharp one. He’s hard fit now and should prove competitive in the race he has been placed in.

BEST BET - #13 - Thunder Hawk (NEXT BEST) 
Thunder Hawk looks like a well placed favourite in a competitive race for Mick Moroney. She was slowly away on her first run for 19 weeks but still asserted an element of strength when being strong through the line and only really looking to get into his task late. That maiden was also of much greater strength than this looks on paper. He will be fitter now and the extra meters he gets is what makes me particularly keen. 

THE DANGER - #11 - Bo Cougar 
Bo Cougar comes back to racing for the Edwards camp after not being beaten far at all on debut last time out at the end of November where he had just that one run. Him and the leader put a big space on the rest of the field in that race and ran very solid splits for this assignment. She’s been set up well here and looks the map horse of the race from the good gate.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Cotton Tree 
Cotton Tree is a horse I have had my eye on since he first jumped out at the beginning of last month and I think given the way the stable is going with their juveniles / first starters he has to be respected here. The Price and Kent camp have been flying with their first starters and when Cotton Tree won his last 800m jump out in fine fashion it was enough for me to stamp him to follow on debut. Interested to see how he goes here.

BEST BET - #9 - Doublern 
Doublern does look the straight bat option in the get out and I think he shapes up well here off of a string of consecutive minor placings this time in. He has had three runs back from a long spell and now comes off a recent run here where he fought hard from the top of the straight but was just outgunned by the exacta late when meeting some smart types. That was a strong effort and it should carry him well here, just not sure if he is a winner. 

THE DANGER - #4 - Rich Divinity 
Rich Divinity is a smart horse for the Keys camp that comes back to racing here off of what has been quite a long 27 week spell when just fading in the closing runs of his last prep. He however has run very well when stepping out in this track in the past with two runner up placings in three outings here and one of his wins came when first up so don’t treat lightly. I also think the booking of Nolen signals intent. He will have to lump the big weight however.

VALUE BET - #2 - Teentee (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Teentee looks primed for his return for the Preusker camp and is a horse I followed last prep when having his debut campaign. He is good with fresh legs and his recent trial effort saw him working very strong to the line when not asked for any effort but still running home nicely. He showed that he has a bit of versatility in running in his first prep to the races as well so given that he has the good draw and 2kg off his back with Houston aboard I am quite keen on him at odds.
