Friday Racing Tips - Geelong Racecourse 16/06/23

Racing returns to Geelong this Friday for a nine race meeting that sees four maiden races to kick us off, followed by the remainder of the races to be contested in Benchmark 58 - 64 grade. Racing there sees a handful of staying races and some exciting sprints that should make for a competitive day in Victorian racing. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

BEST BET - #Oceans Quiet
I am looking for value amongst my top three picks in the opener in what looks to be a very solid juvenile maiden. Poifect does somewhat look the straight bat option, the Ben and JD Hayes debutant is a $200,000 sister of Krupt. She has won two Flemington Jumpouts leading up to this, in both she just trucked along to seemingly score easily and I think all things considered she’ll give a sight.

THE DANGER - #8 - Sunsets 
Sunsets is another who looks a top threat in this field, The Busuttin and Young product has had just the one start to the races back at the end of Febraury when racing honestly but the stable clearly thought she needed more time to be worked along. She now finds an inside draw, John Allen gets the booking and her recent jumpout work just shy of two weeks ago suggests she has returned positively.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Outwitted 
Outwitted is a horse that I expect to improve sharply off the back of his debut. He ran at Pakenham at the beginning of the year, having had just the one career outting where he was never headed behind The Instructor, who went on to win the Blue DIamond Preview. He’s won both lead up trials for his return and is a very well bred filly whos damn was G2 placed as a 2YO. I think he only runs well now and we know how James Cummings has been going with his juveniles.

BEST BET - #1 - Battaglia
Battaglia is starting to put together a handy little record this prep after a bunch of close placings he took a short seven week let up from the races and then was easy at Kyneton when he was wide throughout and just fair to the line there. However, last time out he got onto heavy ground and led from a wide gate, dominating them and winning by six lengths and being eased out of things late. I think he will run very well on the wet track we get tomorrow and Chadwick retains the ride which offsets him taking top weight. 

THE DANGER - #3 - Knightjar 
Knightjar has only had the three starts for Damien O’Brien so far but has already picked up a win in one and looks set to return to racing in good order off the back of a very nice recent Flemington Jumpout where he seemingly moved very nicely. He’s been kept out of the public eye as much as possible for his return but I do think it will be a strong return.

VALUE BET  - #7 - From Pantherland (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
From Pantherland has a very strong third up record and should go very close here. The K & K Keys trained four year old resumed from a spell over the 1200m at Moe and powered off the fence there at the turn to only just find one better in the smart leader who had just a few too many lengths on them early. He then raced at Cranborne in the mud last time out and didn’t appreciate the heavy ground there. He’s got a win and second placing in three third up runs and I think he goes well in not an overly deep field here.

BEST BET - #5 - Better Link (BEST BET) 
I really do think that Better Link is going to progress onto big things for Greg Eurell. We had him in our Pakenham Synthetic tips when he made his debut two weeks ago under Zac Spain where he led easily and had a strong kick in the straight, never being in danger there. Spain retains the ride, they map to find the front easily from barrier three and there’s plenty of upside to come with him still. Keen.

THE DANGER - #3 - Twin Perfection 
It is pretty hard to knock the Phillip Stokes trained Twin Perfection who has been racing in top order since coming back from an 18 week spell, not missing the placegetters in four runs and saluting two back at Pakenham on the turf. He Just missed at Mornington again last time out in a BM70 and now comes back to this grade / away from metro racing and should be hard to beat here.

VALUE BET - #6 - Chester Warrior 
I actually think that the Hayes trained Chester Warrior is sneaky flying and can make big improvements here second up from a long spell. He looked very good at the Jumpouts before resuming, winning one easily before racing at Cranbourne in the mud where he was far from disgraced when sitting on the pace but it was a swoopers’ race there and he had no luck. I like him staying at this trip and think he will look a lot better than the market currently suggests.
