Friday Racing Tips - Ipswich Racecourse 03/11/23

Racing returns to Ipswich this Friday for a midweek card that sees eight competitive races run in mixed grades and I think that we should see some super progressive horses who look forward to Saturday grade racing. I have run through the card and picked out a best bet, next best and outside chance of the day and I think that we will see some great racing so follow me as I outline the card!

BEST BET - #3 - Already A Star (BEST BET)
Already A Star comes back to racing off of an 11 week let up and I think he has improved quite sharply in that time. I am keen to see how he comes back to racing here but I suspect it will be well. He has only had the three career starts but broke maiden on his first outing and then produced a very smart placing last time out. He now comes back after a sharp trial on the Sunshine Coast Inner track two weeks ago where he was moving very nicely and I think he is well placed here.

THE DANGER - #5 - Sir Carter 
Sir Carter has been turned around quickly for this assignment which I think signals a fair bit of intent and judging by his last run he seems to have gotten going well now and can go on with it. He last raced on Sunday at The Sunshine Coast where he produced sustained speed from out wide before that tough run just told very late in the piece as he went down to the eventual winner who had the gun run. That run was still full of merit though and I think he will be strong here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Astern Magic

Astern Magic should have plenty of upside here for the Edmonds camp and comes into this off the back of having resumed off of a 21 week spell at The Gold Coast on the synthetic where he had a few sharp trials to lead him back into racing and then was bumped early but still found the line very nicely in defeat to place fourth there off a tough run. He will be plenty fitter off of that and has already won half of his four career starts, smart horse, don’t discount.

BEST BET - #3 - Kudu (NEXT BEST) 
Kudu drops way back in grade for this assignment and I think will be tough to beat here for Jack Bruce. He’s had a few runs this time in but the last saw him step out in BM80 grade in a tough Saturday race at Eagle Farm over the 1400m where he trucked along through the run on the speed before just being overrun late by some smart horses. He looks well placed back 200m in depth and is a track specialist here with two wins and a runner up placing in four runs and I think he now looks very well placed to win again, nice price too.

THE DANGER - #1 - Air Marshal
Air Marshal hasn’t put in a bad effort in his two runs this time in for the Beaton stable and he looks right to go over again. He stepped out at Grafton on debut for the stable where he won well before going to the Sunshine Coast three weeks between runs where he again produced a very smart effort to beat all but the winner and now comes into this third up, hard fit and ready to strike again.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Hearsay 
Hearsay has outstanding form at this track and can win again after already having put together two sharp wins this time in. His last start effort saw him finishing last here in a small field of six after bombing the start and never really being able to come back into the race from there. He seemed to have some issues then so I expect the stable would have sharpened him right up and he should be strong again now.

BEST BET - #16 - Rise Angelou 
Tough maiden race here but I think that Tony Gollan’s Rise Angelou looks well placed to improve sharply into this and take it out at a solid price. He has had just the one run this time in when coming off of a 21 week spell at the Sunshine Coast and being strong on the speed for the majority of the run before just fading late down the track into midfield. Gollan’s runners rarely get it wrong deeper into their preps, he comes in super light now and with Ang Jones on he should get every chance.

THE DANGER - #3 - Nitrogen 
Nitrogen is having his first start for Chris Anderson after coming over from the Godolphin stable and he should run well here all things being equal. He hasn’t seen racing for some 18 weeks but produced a very sharp effort when trialling at Eagle Farm a few weeks back and I think he runs well off the back of that.

VALUE BET - #6 - Taking Flight (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Taking Flight seems to have been set up very well here and I am keen to watch how he goes in the run. He came off a massive 97 week spell and a handful of trials when racing at the Sunshine Coast last time out and honestly produced an awesome effort given how long he hadn’t raced for then. He ran wide in the run and trucked along before just being outkicked to the line. He now gets in super light with the claim from Waddell and has been set up much better off the back of that resumption run. Very well placed.
