Friday Racing Tips - Ipswich Racecourse 18/08/23

Racing returns to Ipswich this Friday for what looks like a very solid nine race meeting that sees the first five races in maiden grade where some of the top Queensland stables have set forth runners who look to be in for solid preps and who have been placed with intent to get the maiden tag out the way and onto bigger things. There are also some nice spots in the latter races which are contested in mixed benchmark grade and I think that we can pick up some nice bets at odds. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best bets of the day at Geelong racecourse!

BEST BET - #9 - Miss Italiana
Quiet Riot has had a tough few outing, facing stronger competition. But now coming down to a lower level it should be suited a lot better. Has had success in Queensland before. Overall strong contender who will be in the mix. Don’t expect it to be leading, but I expect it to come in late with a strong chance. Look out for this horse on the outside. 

THE DANGER - #1–Celestial Sol
Excellent first up record, with this being another first up this horse has a good chance. Has a 75% place record at this track, and we should see this horse as a contender late after settling early. Last two outings at Ipswich it has come 1st and 2nd.Can’t see this horse stopping it’s form at one of its favourite tracks, should come top 4 at the very least. Good to add in your exotics or same race mutlis.

VALUE BET  - #4 –Iobject (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Form hasn’t been the greatest, but showed some good potential last couple of starts, winning one of them. Expect it to fly late whilst settling early, odds shouldn’t be what they are. Suits this distance well, and should set in a good position. Jockey suits these horses well.

BEST BET - #2 - Conti (NEXT BEST)
Has had a rough stretch although I think this race will suit Conti. On a much easier field, as should get a good starting position near the front, just a matter of if Conti can bring it home down the stretch. Tough competitors alongside it, although it should get the job done.

THE DANGER - #4–Gleaming Legend
Gleaming Legend is resuming from a 2 month break, having changed trainers in meantime as well. The new trainer Marcus Wilson suits these types of horses and I hope to see the best come out of this new venture. This horse has plenty of potential as shown in previous outings, just hasn’t been able to get the job done when it was needed. Keep on eye on this horse for sure.

VALUE BET  - #11–Wonforwazza
Has had some very positive trials, with a tough outing last time around. This horse should be in the contest come the stretch, once again it’s just a matter if it can hold on. Wonforwazza is generally sets the tempo, although Anthony Allen shouldn’t overdo it this time around. Wouldn’t be surprised if this leads the whole way and goes onto win.

BEST BET - #1 – Gossip Torque (NEXT BEST)
Has a proven track record at 50% win rate, and loves Ipswich racecourse with this distance. Last raced 3 weeks ago at Ipswich and came 3rd on an arguably harder field. Can’t see this horse not placing at the very least and should be in great contention to win. Expect this to be a close race but I feel like Gossip Torque has to ability to overcome its challengers. Odds are way overs.

THE DANGER - #13–Princess Marian
This horse is coming off a long stetch since last year, only having one race in the past 7 months. Although the last outing a few weeks ago it looked more than ready to compete. Fresh legs in this race should help a lot, as a lot of other horses are nearing the end of their spell.

VALUE BET - #15–Steel My Thunder
Hard to overlook the form this horse is in, having won his last and coming 2nd in the previous, which have been the only two races of his current spell. Very short race that suits this horse. Should be a the leader or close to it for most of the way. Let’s hope Steel My Thunder can continue the form it’s in. Must add in top 4.

The Geelong track displays a noticeable bias towards horses that can run well on the inside, as well as those with previous experience at this venue. Additionally, I have given priority to horses based on the jockey who will be riding them, as certain jockeys have demonstrated their expertise on this track.
