Friday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 01/12/23

Racing returns to Randwick-Kensington for another cracker card to lead us into Saturday racing as we come to the end of the Group 1 races season. I have gone across the seven race card and picked out a best and next best betting spot of the day as well as a roughie of the day and I am keen to get  stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day at Randwick-Kensington!

#3 - Zouprince - $3.80
#4 - Canadian Ruler - $6.50
#2 - Celestial Spirit (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $8.50
#9 - How Dare You - $8.50

BEST BET - #3 - Zouprince
Zouprince is the straight bat option here for the Snowden’s and looks like quite a progressive horse having just his second start for the stable this prep in his second prep. He resumed from an 18 week break from racing in Saturday company at Rosehill when last racing over the 1200m and running awesomely when two wide the trip and still coming on strongly to finish runner up behind Fleetwood. That reads very well for this and he’s a second up winner in the past.

THE DANGER - #4 - Canadian Ruler
Canadian Ruler looks like a smart horse for Bjorn baker and will be competitive here with the claim from Stanley. He generally doesn’t take much to get going and won first up when on debut last prep. He’s had a couple trials to lead him back into racing and I like the way that he was moving along in his Randwick trial two back. Should be strong here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Celestial Spirit (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Celestial Spirit has contested some tougher races than this and should be competitive here first up for Waterhouse / Bott. He comes off of a 25 week spell and has won and placed in two from four runs first up in the past. I like the way he won his trial two back and how he ran on into third in the most recent trial. Should be strong here.

BEST BET - #2 - Cloudland (NEXT BEST)
I think that as long as Cloudland can handle the big weight he should be too much for these. He has already won four of his 10 career starts and only been unplaced in two and has been running very well this time in for Kris Lees. He won first up here before stepping out at Rosehill last time where he ran third in a great go behind Step Aside. That is by far the A1 form here and should be competitive now hard fit third up.

THE DANGER - #4 - Louisville
Joint favourite in the market and a horse that has come back excellently for Chris Waller is Louisville. He returned to racing at Canterbury off of a 17 week spell when setting six lengths off of the leader and looking for a run in the straight where he found one out wide at the 200m and powered away from them for a sharp win. Natural improvement and out in trip now are both positives and he should be strong here.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Charlemagne
One I am happy to entertain here at longer odds is Charlemagne who steps out for his second run this prep for the Seib stable and has been going very well of late. He raced at Doomben two back in Saturday grade when placing runner up over the mile before going for a 12 week break and then returned to racing a couple weeks ago at Canterbury where he showed he’s still got it when running on strongly into third. He gets in super light here, small field, should be competitive.

BEST BET - #3 - Cool Jakey (BEST BET)
Cool Jakey has to take on the top weight when resuming here but does rate highly here and we often see Pride improving runners who come over to the stable. This particular runner won first up when on debut last prep and now comes into this off the back of two trials. Both of which he has been moving nicely and I think he likely takes this out first up.

THE DANGER - #4 - Shohei
Shohei is generally very competitive second up with a win and placing in three second up runs and I think he should go well here for the Hawkes camp. He resumed at Rosehill off of an 18 week break from racing when running on from the rear of the field quite strongly to end up midfield and now shapes up race fitter, natural improvement and with a good draw, all should see him finish well.

VALUE BET - #6 - Master Showman
Master Showman is a second up winner in the past and can improve into this enough to be a genuine threat for the Ryan and Alexiou stable. He resumed off oa 17 week break from racing last time out at Canterbury over the 1100m where he did a bit wrong in the run but settled, found a spot to come on in the straight and ran on very well given the hiccups earlier in the race when finishing fourth behind a smart winner in Chief Conductor. Natural improvement should carry him well here.

A clear top jockey in this meeting is James Mcdonald. He is the best jockey in the country and one of the best in the world. Kensington is his stomping ground and I have already tipped a few of his rides above but I think this looks a particularly good meeting for him. I have highlighted all his rides below:

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.
