Friday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 03/02/23

Racing returns to Kensington for the first non-provincial meeting this year and how lucky are we to have metro racing on a friday afternoon. There’s seven races on the card, each with an equal prize of $55,000 and most of them are over sprint to lower mid distance with the lone 2400m staying race which should make for an exciting day at Kensington. The rail is out +3m and the track is expected to be a soft 6 but I think we could see it upgraded with the heat Sydney is currently having.

BEST BET - #1 - Associate- (BEST BET)
Associate looks to be a horse with a genuine engine under the hood based off her only run on debut at this track early last December. She did it out wide there over the 1400m but got clear running on the straight and really motored home for an overall super fast time and a good second placing, only just falling short on the line to the smart Straight Acer. She draws for a much softer run this time round and has had the trial to ready her for this. I think she has something on this field.

THE DANGER - #2 - Call Di 
Call Di is the clear danger in the race, resuming here today from a 15 week spell after just the two outings last prep. her last run before being sent back to the paddock was seriously intriguing though, where she was held up multiple times and still managed to be in the finish, coming third in a really fast run race. The form from that is shaping up nicely with three subsequent winners since and I think that she could have won that day with a different run. Look for a big showing…

VALUE BET  - #3 - Passionate Rebel 
I think that Passionate Rebel needs to be given another chance in this field on the back of her debut at the races. She’s had just the one start at Mudgee over the 1500m and did it tough sitting three wide with no cover all run before challenging in the straight in what was a brave effort to finish third. I think if she gets a better run here and with the big jockey upgrade there is a chance she takes this out at big odds.

BEST BET - #1 - Made By Khan- (NEXT BEST)
Tipping in the lone staying race as I think there are a few who can take on the short priced Waller favourite in this small field. In saying this, I favour Made By Khan who comes into this third up off a short let up and 5th up in his prep. He didn’t do much last time out at Sandown but was against the race in all aspects there and the time still doesn’t read badly. Before then, he was excellent at this track over the 2000m when sitting wide all run and still having heaps in hand to storm over them and draw clear in the last 250m. He seems to like this track, Dylan Gibbons is aboard, he should be fit and I think he can turn the tide on the in form Whangaehu

THE DANGER - #3 - Whangaehu
Whangaehu still presents a very real threat in this race. The Waller runner has been excellent this prep, placing in four of her five outings and picking up a win on a bog Canterbury track as a short priced favourite in the other. He never runs a bad race and was unlucky not to get the win last time out when just headed out late. As always, she has another good chance to win again on Friday.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Oceanic Flash (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
It would be stupid to count Oceanic Flash out in this race. He has been racing in stronger company than this and although hasn’t been winning, he certainly has not been far away. Most recently, he ran over the 2000m at Randwick in Provincial grade two weeks ago when seventh of ten but still ran a super fast time and had a strong kick there. That race has already had a subsequent winner emerge. Avdulla taking over from Schiller is a bit of a downside but there is plenty of upside to the horse.

BEST BET - #2 - Duchy Of Savoy (NEXT BEST) 
It’s always scary to take on the Waller/Jmac combo but I think it’s necessary here. Duchy of Savoy is an honest horse who rates a fair bit on top of this field and knows how to win. He is resuming off a sixteen week spell here and has had just the one soft trial at Rosehill to ready him for this. He likes it with a bit of sting out of the ground and gets that here after picking up two wins in three runs last prep at Sandown and Canterbury on this kind of ground. He drops back in grade here, comes to hand quickly and I think they could be setting him up for a serious prep.

THE DANGER - #3 - Narito
Narito is the danger in this race as Chris Waller and James Mcdonald combine on the horse for the second time this prep after a good outing two weeks ago at this track over the 1100m when third of eleven after a really awkward run, never really given clear running or room to breathe. He has been excellent in the past, so the talent is no question and should be peaking now or near third up and meets a softer field here but takes on a bit of weight.

VALUE BET - #7 - Latenighttoughguy
The other Chris Waller runner in this race who looks interesting is Latenighttoughguy who races under Nash for his third outing this prep and has been excellent thus far. He picked up a soft win in BM64 company first up at Gosford in an impressive return to aus racing and then went on to Canterbury when getting no favours, being held up at the 200m and 150m to come third in a race that he really should have gone much closer in. He’s a top chance to go over again.
