Friday Racing Tips - Moe Racecourse 20/10/23

Racing returns to the Moe for a big Friday meeting down south and we have nine races on the card for a share of $463k prize money in total with a few high level contests and the Ladbrokes Moe Cup being the feature of the day, a 2050m open race for a share of $130k prize money. There looks to be some progressive VIC and outer state stable runners and I am keen to see how they go so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day at Pakenham.

Moe R4 - Moe Optical 'Royal Snack' (Bm70) (2050m)

Selections:
#7 - Hoops (BEST BET) - $2.80
#1 - Fire Glo Too - $4.40
#4 - Five Rings - $7.00
#2 - Florida Dream - $11.00

BEST BET - #7 - Hoops (BEST BET)
Straight bat option is Danny O’Brien’s Hoops who has had three runs back from a 19 week spell and has kicked up in his last two and doesn’t look to be slowing down now. He won second up over this distance at Seymour where he didn’t beat much but did it smartly and in a nice bit of time before last stepping out at Murray Bridge over this distance and producing another big run when beating all bar a smart winner. He looks well placed again to win.

THE DANGER - #1 - Fire Glo Too
Fire Glo Too has to carry a stack of weight here and that is probably why he isn’t the running favourite in this race but I do think that there is no real reason to knock him here. He has picked up two wins and produced two close runner up placings in his last four runs with his most recent run being a smart second place at The Valley behind Asgoodassobergets where he drove to the front in the last 100m and fought hard to only be overrun late. That form reads well here and Dee will give him every chance.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Five Rings
Five Rings has been ultra consistent for the Price and Kent stable this campaign, having already picked up two wins and a close placing first up in four runs. His last run saw him at Benalla over the 2100m when he raced wide all run and shifted out wider on the turn but just knuckled down to keep powering home over the line for a very strong win in good time. I don’t see him slowing down now.

Moe R6 - Bottlemart Moe Mile (Bm78) (1600m)

Selections:
#3 - Place Of Gold - $3.90
#9 - Pungo - $4.00
#1 - Ima Shelby (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.50
#5 -  Seb Song - $7.00

BEST BET - #3 - Place Of Gold
Competitive race with a bunch of chances and I think that the leading contender, Place Of Gold, is a smart horse for Chris Brown who has often been afforded weeks between runs but it continues to pay off with him picking up two wins and clocking a close runner up placing in his four runs this time in. He last stepped out in BM70 grade at The Valley over the mile where he set fourth in the run before taking over at the 125m and being strong to the line, losing a plate in the run but overcoming that to win and win well. He looks well placed to get the money again here but does meet a more honest contest.

THE DANGER - #9 - Pungo
I have always been a fan of Pungo for Chris Waller but he definitely had high expectations from punters when first making his way to racing and I would say those have dropped off a bit. However, he is still a sharp horse and he does look to have returned nicely to racing. He came off of a 22 week spell at Mornington over the 1500m a few weeks back when setting fourth in the run and chasing hard all straight to beat all but the exacta there and now will be fitter and ready to go over here. His second up record is good as well with a win and placing in two second up runs.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Ima Shelby (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY
Ima Shelby is one of my favourite horses for the Hayes boys and I think he shapes up very well here and has to be given another look off the back of his last start. He bombed out in the run at this track in the Gold Nugget when he just failed to respond to riding due to the track being too firm and I think that now he rates very highly coming back onto a track with his toe in the ground.

Moe R8 - Ladbrokes Moe Cup (2050m)

Selections:
#5 - Claidheamh Mor (NEXT BEST) - $2.45
#6 - Convener - $5.50
#4 - Port Philip - $12.00
#3 - Suizuro - $8.00

BEST BET - #5 - Claidheamh Mor  (NEXT BEST)
Claidheamh Mor has really been enjoying life under the Rielly camp and comes into the Cup looking for the Hattrick after winning his last two on the bounce. He scored two back at The Valley over the 2500m where he relished the tempo being put on before kicking away lengths clear at the 200m and never being in doubt before coming off of a 4 week break and taking out the Coleraine Cup in dominant fashion when again kicking hard at around the 200m, getting lengths in front and then being eased down late when the win was in hand. Tough to beat here.

THE DANGER - #6 - Convener
Tough ask of the Maher and Eustace trained Convener to resume over the 2050m but I do think he is up to the task and in two first up runs he has come very close, placing runner up in both over similar distance ranges. In addition to that this isn’t the strongest field and I feel as though he can play a role here. He’s only had the three Australian starts but has already picked up a win and runner up placing in them and he does seem to be enjoying life down under. I think he shapes up well here and am keen to see how he goes.

VALUE BET - #4 - Port Philip
Port Phillip is one of the more interesting runners in this field for the Sandhu stable. He’s got a belter second up record with two wins and a close placing in three second up runs and comes into this after resuming off of a 21 week spell at Sandown Hillside over the 1800m where he did need the run but still did some great work early but was largely caught out wide and deep on the wrong part of the track. However, that run will have given him a great fitness benefit, he draws better here and with the extra meters will have plenty of time to come on. Go close at odds.

Best Promotions for Moe Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
