Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 01/03/24

Racing returns to Moonee Valley for a belter half a million dollar Friday night race card and I am very excited for this race day as the quality of racing really starts to rise in Australia as the Autumn Group 1 races season is well underway and we approach another big Saturday of racing. We also have a Stakes race on the card this Friday with the Entry Education Abell Stakes. I have gone across the card and picked out my best betting spots and outlined them below so follow me!

BEST BET - #3 - My Name Is (NEXT BEST)
My Name Is should be able to stay out in front of them and will be tough to catch from there. He’s had just the three runs to kick his career off but has been very sharp in them with the latest being his maiden win over the 1000m at this course where he was just too strong through the line. He’s hard fit now, should easily find the lead from the gun draw and the 955m looks fine for his racing style. Go well.

THE DANGER - #1 - Holy Racket
Joint favourite in the market Holy Racket does have to be respected as well coming off the back of a blitzing win over the 1000m at this course a couple weeks back when returning from an 11 week break. He was very strong through the line there and the only query now is he has to carry a stack of weight, coming in at 63kg but he does rate quite a ways on top of this field and it’s a true sprint so the weight might not be enough to stop him.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Zousuko
Zousuko is a sharp filly for John McArdle that can surprise the other two here. She resumed in a 1000m maiden at Pakenham when letting them get out in front and then spanking them in a dominant effort late to the line. She’s always been one to watch but now that she comes here with a bit of form I think that she can be taken quite seriously here.

BEST BET - #8 - Sea What I See (BEST BET)
Sea What I sea should find plenty over this field after resuming over the 1300m at Bendigo off of just the one trial and finding plenty under Shinn’s steering to salute well and make a mess of them. She looks like she’s going to be onto bigger things than this and I think that with Shinn sticking there’s clearly intent and this race might serve as a stepping stone for bigger things.

THE DANGER - #7 - Vilnius
Vilnius is a smart horse for chris waller who comes here two weeks between runs since stepping out at this track and trip where he attempted to find the lead throughout the run but was forced to sit outside the leader and still gave a strong kick in the straight but just found one better in a sharp horse who had the fitness edge. The form around him reads very well for this and I think he is an honest challenger here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Magarten
Magaraten is a horse that I have been following for a bit for the Hunter camp and he’s in great form and has to rate as a key chance again here. He put the writing on the wall with a bunch of close placings before stepping out at Pakenham last time out over the mile when coming off the fence in the straight and hitting the lead to jet away from them and win well. Gaudray sticks, they draw well and the horse is flying I’d say.

BEST BET - #7 - Jungle Jim
Jungle Jim commands some element of respect here given he can set the tempo from out front. He has seen a very successful campaign thus far with back to back wins on the bounce before stepping out at Caulfield last time out where he was only beaten by one smart horse in Rey Magnerio. He needs an element of control to put these away as otherwise the last couple hundred meters will be testing but I back he gets it here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Sweet RIde
Sweet ride seems like quite a sharp horse for Annabel Neasham who gets a really good setup for this assignment coming into this race a few weeks between contesting the Rubiton at Caulfield where he just couldn’t get one over Kallos but still ran on very well in defeat behind him. He takes a huge step back in competition for this assignment and gets Craig Will aboard, go well.

VALUE BET - #4 - Indian Pacific (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Indian Pacific should be getting to his peak here for Nick Ryan after two very solid runs with the latest being in the Rubiton where he tried very hard from up on the speed but just couldn’t get there when placing just behind Kallos. I’m not convinced that 1200m is his striking distance but I think that with hard fitness, a solid gate and good steering he has to rate as a chance here.
