Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 02/02/24

Racing returns to Moonee Valley for a belter half a million dollar Friday night race card and I am very excited for this race day as the quality of racing really starts to rise in Australia. I have gone across the card and picked out my best betting spots and outlined them below so follow me!

BEST BET - #4 - Unusual Pearl (BEST BET)
Unusual Pearl looks like a nice bet to kick off the evening’s racing at Moonee Valley. He has taken a couple runs to really get going for the McEvoy’s but after the way he won at Sandown Hillside a couple weeks ago I think now he can go on with it. He set three deep there before clicking up hard in the straight to power home and win well. He clearly appreciated getting out to the trip so now staying at this distance range I think is very positive.

THE DANGER - #1 - Border Leicester 
Hard to knock the Browne camp’s Kiwi import who comes into this race chasing a hat trick after last stepping out at Sandown Hillside over the 3000m where he was by far the best stayer in the race, drawing clear of them in the final 150m for a reasonably soft win. The win prior came over the 2100m and was equally as sharp so back to the 2500m now I don’t think should trouble him too much.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Bon Appetit 
The only other winning threat in this small field is Bon Appetit for the Welsh camp who comes back to racing here off of a 3 week break and after making it two in a row when stepping out at Cranbourne and leading along the rails before booting clear in the straight. That was over the 2100m but he’s had two trials in between to keep him sharp and can win this.

BEST BET - #5 - Ceremonious 
Hasn’t been a very long career for Waller’s import in Ceremonious but you would have to think the win comes now third up and after two very sharp runs to kick his career off. He last stepped out at Geelong over the 1530m when chasing hard through the entire run to only go down to the winner, who had the gun run and he now comes here third up, hard fit and in great form. Go well at a nice price.

THE DANGER - #10 - Belle Inferno
I don’t think that Belle Inferno is fully tested yet after having the two career starts for Ciaron Maher and both of them were in tougher company than this. The debut saw him step out in Saturday Grade at Flemington when powering home well to finish just behind the placegetters before coming from a tough spot to jet home into midfield at Sandown Hillside last time out. Third up now and hard fit, can take this out.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Our Girl Britney (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
One I am happy to entertain at longer odds is Our Girl Britney who made her debut two weeks ago at Mornington over the 1200m and after jumping awkwardly and settling near the rear of the field she improved steadily throughout the run to eventually start a big run home that saw her finish just behind the placegetters and only a length and a half off of the winner. Plenty of upside to come and draws a good gate here.

BEST BET - #1 - Magarten (NEXT BEST)
Is Magarten a milk drinker? I’m not entirely sure but am willing to give her one more chance here. She’s only had the one win in twelve career starts but has looked very sharp since coming back to racing off of a long 29 week spell and I think if the win comes, it comes here third up and hard fit. She has placed runner up in both of her runs back with the latest being two weeks ago at Sandown Hillside where she kept finding the line powerfully from out wide and looks set to peak here third up.

THE DANGER - #2 - Genrichero
Genrichero has had a belting start to his career for the Laurie camp and comes here for start number three after breaking through at start number two at Mornington a couple weeks ago as a short priced favourite. He didn’t beat all that much then but the way he did so was very impressive and I think with more upside and hard fit third up now he is dangerous.

VALUE BET - #3 - The Claimant
The Claimant has come awfully close to a win for Mick Kent in two starts back from a long thirty three week spell so coming here third up and ready to peak I don’t think he should be disrespected in this field. He first stepped out at Flemington when defying his price and flying home to place well there before last stepping out over the Mile at Pakenham and again flying home to place well. Third up, hard fit, same story as the other two.
