Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 06/10/23

Night racing returns to Moonee Valley for the second week of the Season and I am keen to be back here for another great eight race card. There are a bunch of competitive fields with some very progressive looking horses who look set to have big preps to come as the Group 1 races season approaches its peak. As usual I have run through the race card and picked out a best bet, next best and outside chance of the day so follow me below as I outline the day at Moonee Valley!

#1 - Alsonso (BEST BET) - $2.70
#5 - Revalene - $3.90
#4 - Reprisal - $7.00
#6 - Elphinstone - $6.50

BEST BET - #1 - Alsonso (BEST BET)
Strong looking favourite in the first at a decent price and I am keen to have something on Alsonso for the L & T Corstens stable. This guy has been getting so close to breaking his maiden and I think he gets as good a chance as any in this field now. His last run came in Saturday company at Flemington where he powered home off not the most economical of runs to be strong through the line into third placing. This looks far softer and I think he takes this out.

THE DANGER - #5 - Revalene
It is hard to knock Revalene for the Nat Young off the back of his career debut and he has plenty of upside coming into this. He debuted at Cranbourne two weeks ago where he raced well over the 1000m, crossing to find the lead and running his legs off but still having enough to hold second place when swamped by the eventual winner. He looks like a smart type who will have plenty to offer here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Reprisal 
It would be foolish to discount the winning combination of Danny O’Brien and Jamie Mott who combine under Reprisal for just his second career start. He debuted in May at Bendigo over the 1100m where he was moving very well before being badly held up from the 400m-200m and then still belted home to place second when he really should have won. No public trials for this but you’d think he runs well.

BEST BET - #9 - North Channel (NEXT BEST)
North Channel may have been contesting easier races than he steps out to now but the way that the times he has been doing his runs in reads he could very well have this lot covered. The Hayes boys product featured in our best bets tips when he last stepped out at Swan Hill two weeks ago and made it two in a row as a short priced favourite to win in good time and in dominant fashion. He now comes into this hard fit, well weighted and ready for the step up to this grade.

THE DANGER - #13 - Truffle Finder 
Truffle Finder has been placed as an emergency for this race so we will wait to see what happens on race day but based off last preparation he should be very strong here second up. He resumed from a seventeen week spell at Sandown Hillside a few weeks back where he peaked slightly late in the run but chased very hard there to finish just behind the placegetters. The writing is on the wall now and a win wouldn’t shock at all.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Sirius Black
A Maher and Eustace trained last start winner is not something to be treated lightly and Sirius Black looks up to the task here. He has had a few runs this time in and has made two of those starts winning ones but when he last stepped out over this distance at Sandown Hillside he got a soft lead and whilst he faded hard late he got away with murder from out front then. He now will be fitter for his run at the trip and that added fitness could see him win this.

BEST BET - #10 - Unlimited Magic (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Unlimited Magic looked to have returned to racing very sharply for Chris Mcdonald and can go one better here second up. He had won two from three of his starts before coming back to racing off of a 27 week spell three weeks ago at Sandown Hillside over this distance where he came from around third to chase hard, hampered at the 100m when looking to really click up and claim the race and as such he wasn’t fully tested there. He now looks to atone race fitter and with a much quicker gap between runs than coming off of that big spell. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #5 - Frilled 
Beware the unbeaten horse. Matty Smith trains Frilled who looks more than ready to step up to this grade after putting together three sharp wins on the bounce to kick his career off. The last one came first up at Kembla where he jumped awkwardly but recovered, found the lead and the fence and kicked away from there for a strong win. He’s just a bit short for my liking but undoubtedly runs well here.

VALUE BET - #9 - Tanto
Tanto is a very good fresh horse for the Ellerton camp that resumes here and can hit hard first up. He went away producing an end of prep run at Mornington at the beginning of June but prior to then had been putting in great efforts behind some stronger horses than this, finishing third to flying on a limb the run before. He’s got a win and close placing in three first up efforts and this will be the softest field he has met in some time.
