Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 08/03/24

Racing returns to Moonee Valley for a belter half a million dollar Friday night race card and I am very excited for this race day as the quality of racing really starts to rise in Australia as the Autumn Group 1 races season is well underway and we approach another big Saturday of racing.I have gone across the card and picked out my best betting spots and outlined them below so follow me!

BEST BET - #2 - Warlords (NEXT BEST) 
Warlords looks like a very solid bet in the opening race of the meeting here for the Busuttin / Young camp and I am keen to have something on him. He’s shaping up to be a very sharp horse with two wins in his four runs and has returned well to racing, coming off of a 21 week break at Sandown Lakeside last time out where he lost a plate in running and was challenged late in the straight but fought back hard to win very well. He’ll take a stack of improvement off of that run and will only be sharper here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Galano
Honest danger for the Hawkes camp in Galano who comes here third up, in form and ready to fire again after stepping out three weeks between runs at Sandown Lakeside a fortnight ago and cruising along in second place in the run before letting down in the straight and driving to the front of the field at the 150m mark before jetting away to go clear of them in a strong effort in weak company. He should have more to offer here third up and looks to be set up well for this assignment.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Super Solar
Super Solar has been putting in good runs this time in for the Goodwin camp and I think the only reason he comes in at the big price here is due to his luckless run last time out at this course where he was trapped deep and off the pace before being forced wide and not able to do anything from there. Prior to then he had been running very well with a runner up placing at Sandown Lakeside and a win prior at Stony Creek. Can hit back hard here.

BEST BET - #2 - Philosopher (BEST BET)
Philosopher just looks like such a good horse for the Jusufovic camp having now won 5 of his eleven career starts and being placed in a further two of them. He took a short three week break from racing before coming back at this track at the end of last month where he found the lead and was never in doubt from there, seemingly not even having to fully let down to take out that race. He now gets turned around quicker for this assignment and with Gaudray aboard and the little claim he gets he should be strong here.

THE DANGER - #6 - Scuderia 
Another very progressive looking animal in Scuderia for the Carberry camp steps out here after putting together three wins in a row and then narrowly placing second at this track last time out when taking over to lead at the 125m and fighting hard with the winner to just miss. He rates highly off of that effort and there’s been two subsequent winners out of that race so the form reads well. Go close.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Unflinching
Unflinching is a gun fresh horse and a truly bred sprinter who comes back here off of an 18 week spell and should be considered a winning threat. All six of his wins have come at this trip with five of them coming at this track and in five first up runs he has two wins and a close runner up placing. He gets a good draw here and a claim from Houston, should be running hard out the gates.

BEST BET - #3 - Yarrawonga
Does Yarrawonga still have steam in the tank to get another win aboard for Gai / Bott is the question but I think the answer is yes. He took a few runs to build fitness and since then has been dishing out punishment with his past two runs being 2400m wins at Warwick Farm two back and then at Rosehill last start where he had to dig deep after being challenged in the straight but found more in the final 200m to hold them at bay and win well. He shapes up highly off the back of that and slightly back in depth now. Only knock is Costin jumps on for Clark.

THE DANGER - #8 - Roaring Engine
Hard to ignore Roaring Engine for Danny O’Brien after the way that he has been going lately. He won three back at Werribee over the 2244m before stepping out at Sandown Hillside last time out where he set third on the leaders backs and chased hard in the straight, being bumped at the 75m and again at the 50m but he just couldn’t be stopped when winning well. It appears like he’s looking for longer and now gets that, with Shinn aboard, very dangerous.

VALUE BET - #5 - Think 'N' Fly (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
I think that Think ‘N’ Fly is being somewhat overlooked here in the market for the Noonan camp. He won three back at Ararat over the 2200m before chasing hard at Bendigo in a very strong run that saw him just miss the win and come second and then stepped out at Flemington in tough company last time out where he sat on the leaders backs and chased hard to finish just behind the placings. Hard fit, in form and back in depth all make a good recipe for this assignment.
