Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 08/12/23

Racing returns to Moonee Valley for another great Friday night of racing under the lights and we have eight races on the card for a combined $480k worth of prize money up for grabs and I have gone across the card and picked out my three best betting spots. It’s going to be a good evening of racing as we look towards out Saturday Tips so follow me below!

BEST BET - #3 - Setosa (NEXT BEST)
Small field here and it looks a good set up for Setosa to go over again for Phillip Stokes. He resumed off of a 20 week spell about a month ago over this trip at Ballarat where he was incredibly impressive, sitting four wide the trip and still finding plenty to draw clear of the field and win well there. He needs to be near the front given the track pattern here but in such a small field I don’t think that’s an issue.

THE DANGER - #1 - Our Cracklin Rosie
Deserving favourite in Our Cracklin Rosie who has hardly put a foot wrong this time in and has been absolutely flying for the Nichols stable in her past two starts. Both of the runs have come at this track and trip and both of them have seen her speed out to lead and then give a strong kick in the straight to win. If she holds her form she can make it three in a row.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Champagne Effort 
Interesting horse for the Bedggood stable who makes his debut here and I think that he can make an impact first up. He gets the booking of Billy Pinn and with the claim he gets in at limit weight of just 54kg, has jumped out very nicely for this first start and gets the gun draw.

I’ve always been a big fan of this guy for the Griffiths / De Kock stable and whilst he doesn’t win out of turn I think that the way he’s returned is very sharp and he looks like he can win now. He resumed off of a short 14 week break at this track a couple weeks ago when improving from deep in the run to only miss by a head in a bold effort and now should be fitter, gets a claimer aboard and can win.

THE DANGER - #8 - Miss Tarzy
Miss Tarzy has had a cracking return to racing for Anthony and Sam Freedman and I think will only improve here. He resumed off of a 23 week spell at Seymour over the Mile with no public trials which is certainly not an easy thing to do where he set second and two wide the trip before thundering home for a pretty soft win. I think he will relish the step out in trip but just a bit too short for me.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Sky Horse
Not sure what’s happened to Sky Horse lately but the rating off of his last three runs is one of the best in this field and he’s certainly good enough if he brings his best here. He’s having his first race now for Patrick Payne and I think what the stable brings is definitely what he needs. He gets a key claim from Opperman and generally goes well with fresh legs so I think with all that said watch the market and what he looks like in the yard.

BEST BET - #9 - Hissy Fit
Hissy Fit is a very honest horse for the Yargi camp who resumes here off of a 16 week break from racing and I think that given how she has gone in her two first up runs to date (a win and runner up placing) there’s no real reason to doubt she runs well here. She gets the booking and claim from Billy Pinn, draws well and meets a beatable field.

THE DANGER - #4 - Moon And Back 
Moon And Back has returned very well to racing for Andrew Noblet and rates highly in this field. He came off of a 22 week spell last time out when racing over the 955m here at the beginning of last month and recovered after jumping awkwardly to chase very hard in the straight and only find a couple better when third to a smart horse in Scuderia who had a far better run than him. Fitter and with a bit more luck now he should feature.

VALUE BET - #2 - Triumphantly (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Triumphantly has to be over the odds here. He’s had four runs this time in, having won two of them and placed in one and comes off the back of a run at Seymour where he set sixth in the run and did have to look around a bit for a run but when it came gee he was strong to the line in winning. He comes up at a massive price now and draws gate one so if they can find a decent spot he can win this.
