Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 10/02/23

Metro racing continues at Eagle Farm to end off the Queensland Summer Carnival and we have been spoilt with some high level racing for a Friday afternoon with a bunch of BM70 races and a few exciting sprints along with a couple mid distance races and two staying races at 3000m and 2040m. The rail is out +3m and the track is rated a good 4. I expect it to remain in this range.

BEST BET - #11 - Stateswoman (NEXT BEST)
Stateswoman comes into this third up in her career and has been solid in her last two outings, placing in both behind really progressive winners. That form reads well for this race and she gets Shinn aboard, they draw nicely and I think she is a top chance to break Maiden here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Devoted Poet
Devoted Poet is a 4-yr-old racing for the Waller stable who made his Australian debut over the 1300m after coming over from the UK. He was a bit one paced there even when asked for effort but still whacked away to come third there. I think he may need one more run for fitness but this is a pretty thin field and he is going places.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Skinny Dip
Skinny Dip just hasn’t been able to break maiden thus far but he really has been close. Last time out on Pakenham over the 1600m when landing up in third place to Crismon Light who looks to be a smart type. The other form around him from a few weeks prior reads well for this but I think the other two might improve into this more than him.

BEST BET - #3 - Sparing - (NEXT BEST)
Sparing really does look to be quite a talented type off the back of his run two back but he’s made me a bit apprehensive off the back of his last run where he ran in the Highway at Randwick but didn’t do anything there under Jmac who gave him every chance. Before then though he was an all the way winner over the 1000m at this track and now gets back to the same track/distance and I think that he will be one of the best chances in a thin race.

THE DANGER - #12 - Starz Barwon 
Starz Barwon is one that peaks my interest stepping up to metro grade racing after a successful prep with two wins and a handful of placings this campaign. Two runs back he scored a soft win at Yarra Valley in BM58 company and he looked too good for those before moving onto a race in this grade at Mornington where he was super brave, doing it tough out wide all run and still coming on strongly to end up second. He gets Thompson on now and they map to have a bit of cover, if he doesn’t get crowded I think he can win this.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Abaddon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Abaddon is a horse I have followed through the motions and he resumes here for the Krongold stable. He likes to mix his form a bit but the race looks suited to him and so does this distance. Last time out he ran behind the smart Stripped black and was good there, good enough for this. He maps to sit just behind a fast race and with the inside draw if he doesn’t run his legs off he will clearly be one of the strongest late.

Jennilala resumes here today for the prominent Maher and Eustace camp. She was more than pretty good in her two Spring campaign runs to kick off her career where she debuted at this track/distance and was a smart winner there before running bravely in the Twilight Glow after doing it tough out wide all run. She has had a few nice Jump Outs to ready her for this and I think that fresh legs are suited to her and she will have a big showing on race day.

THE DANGER - #1 - Gold Revolver 
All you can do is win and that is what Gold Revolver has been doing. He comes into this rock hard fit fourth up after narrowly placing second in his return to the races at Wangaratta over the 1100m when resuming and the only thing that let him down there was fitness. Subsequently, he’s gone on to win back to back races impressively stepping up to Flemington most recently and belting them there. He is a strong, well-bred horse and I think this race is well within reach.

VALUE BET - #7 - Amati
Amati is a filly from Sebring who resumes for the Waller stable on Friday. She ran decently at Stakes level during Spring and ended her campaign in the same race as Jennilala when making solid ground from the back. He runs well with fresh legs and won a recent jumpout for this in pretty good fashion. Not sure if he needs the run which is a query but is a class horse.

For My multi at the Valley I have selected from my best runners of the day but also have considered the track bias here as for the sprints it is clear that those close to the rail or those that jump on the bunny have an advantage and for the longer distance races am putting more weight on the jockey and if the horses are locally trained.
