Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 29/09/23

Night racing is back at The Valley and we kick things off with Moir stakes night tomorrow night and wow it is good to be back here. The card looks belter with eight races and the feature being the Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes, a 1000m sprint in race seven that is supported by two group two’s and a group three race. I have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below as I outline my best spots for racing tomorrow night!

BEST BET - #9 - Sandpaper
Sandpaper is an interesting colt for the Godolphin stable who resumes here. He hasn’t raced since the Brisbane Winter Carnival when a closing fifth in the Gunsynd. That was behind what looks to be one of the more progressive runners in the country in Rediener. His trial work has been good and I think the map is suitable. He should be coming on strongly at the end.

THE DANGER - #8 - Ranting
Nick Ryan’s ranting rates as one of the top chances in this field and whilst he hasn’t raced for about two months I think that he will return impressively here. His last run came at the beginning of August where he closed off the race very well behind the ever impressive Benedetta. He is another who gets the right map and a top jockey booking, clear intent.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Maotai (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
No reason to discount Maotai who is dropping way back in grade for this assignment. He resumed a few weeks back in a strong race at Rosehill where he looked like he would need the run and he did when finishing lengths behind Red Card. He now looks to have been placed with a fair bit of intent here and I think he is a genuine winning chance at odds here.

BEST BET - #8 - Verdad (NEXT BEST)
Verdad should measure up here and I think based on the way he won at Bendigo on debut he’s going to be onto bigger races than this. He stepped out there for his first career start where he was dominant through the line after really letting down with purpose late in the piece. There looks to be a genuine tempo in this which will only aid his chances and overly the depth isn’t really there.

THE DANGER - #6 - King Of Fighters
King Of Fighters is knocking on the door. The Price / Kent trained three year old comes out of a listed Fleimngton race in the Exford where he didn’t bounce too well and sat last in the run before absolutely blitzing to the line in a great effort behind a smart horse. Out to 1600m looks positive, if his racing manners are there it could be a case of good luck beating him.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Mojave Desert
Mojave Desert presents third up from a spell and approaches just about peak fitness for Chris Waller. His two runs back have both been over the 1400m with his latest being at Flemington where he sat off a solid speed and looked like he was going to get going at the right time but his condition just gave way late. He looks very solidly placed now going out to the mile and I think he is a definite winning chance.

BEST BET - #7 - Imperatriz (BEST BET) 
I was once a doubter but I am no more of Imperatriz after she has proved me wrong time and time again. The star mare resumed in the McEwen a few weeks ago where she let them get a ways in front and absolutely blasted them to the line with some of the fastest last 200m splits clocked across the whole meeting. I figured she would be going out on a trip but there is clear intent from the stable if she is staying at this distance and looks well placed here again. Rates a long way in front.

THE DANGER - #8 - Asfoora
I have a feeling that Henry Dwyer has been targeting Everest with Asfoora and a win here would put her name in the mix for that race. She resumed in The Heath at Caulfield over the 1100m where she did her own work out wide before being asked for a bit at the end and easily dominated them afterwards. She put in an awesome trial shift on Monday and hasn’t been placed here without consideration.

VALUE BET - #1 - Rothfire 
The always impressive Rothfire seems to have come back in good order for the Heathcoate stable and I think that it would be foolish to discount him ever. He resumed off of a 13 week break when racing here in the McEwen over this trip and was very impressive, chasing hard the entire straight to beat the likes of a first up Giga Kick and all but Imperatriz there. He can turn the tables on Imperatriz with the right run now.
